Shanghai Disney Resort in China was the first Disney property to be affected by the global health crisis. The resort was closed in late January.
Being the first property affected also means that Shanghai is the furthest along in the course of the crisis and could have a chance to open a little sooner than the rest of the world. Recently, Shanghai Disney Resort started a phased reopening with its resorts and some retail. Now, it looks like the parks are doing some simulations to test out their new health and safety measures.
Twitter user @gourmetdyy got a glimpse into what some of these new measures will look like. The following photos are used with permission. It appears that officials in Disney Shanghai have taped off sections of the ground where standing will not be allowed.
Some areas have clearer graphics instructing guests to stand between each of these “please do not stand here” tiles.
As you can see in the following pictures, these areas have temporary barricades up to form very specific line paths so that guests know where to walk to maintain a safe distance.
When these photos were taken, some people were at the park gates. This potentially could have been a simulation to test new entrance procedures. Similarly, the account stated that some of the shows were being tested with limited capacity and multiple seats between each guest.
Another part of these simulations is reportedly the testing of new procedures for parades. We have been concerned with how shows will be handles so insights like these are particularly interesting.
Such measures could have implications for what we can expect in the domestic parks as well. We’ll be sure to keep an eye on developments in Shanghai and in the U.S. parks to update you with any information!

Yeah sounds magical if this is how it’ll be in America. HA. I’ll be back once everything’s back to normal, or they slash the admission prices significantly because you’re definitely not going to get the same experience.
I agree. This doesn’t look very appealing. You have to remember, China is still a Communist country and as such, I think their people are more used to following very strict orders. I don’t think this will go over well here. There are people here who don’t follow Covid- 19 directions from the government. Does anyone really think they would follow Disney directions?
Those markers on the ground, a little funny and NOBODY is going to follow those little squares and directions. People can barely follow a mask rule, 6 feet distancing and the blue X’s on the floors at check outs NOW….SMH
If they can’t follow the Disney rules, they should be told to leave the Park period.
Sigh…..no only will they not follow the rules, they won’t go to begin with.
