The Orange County Economic Recovery Task Force, with Disney in attendance, has been in and out of meetings pretty heavily the past few weeks.
We’ve been keeping an extra close eye on the Reopening Business Group (that has reps from Disney in attendance!) and the Bringing Back Tourism Group. Today, Disney spoke up in a meeting of the former to announce that their reopening plans as of right now are…no plans.
A member of the group asked the park representatives in the committee to weigh in on what they’re thinking about the reopening of their companies and the state. Thomas Mazloum, Disney World’s Senior Vice President of Resort & Transportation Operations mentioned, “We do not have an opening date yet…I want to make it clear.”
Mazloum explained that just because Disney world is taking bookings for June, doesn’t mean they’ll be opening in June. As of now, the company does not have any news about Walt Disney World or any of its other parks. Mazloum reiterated a “want to be clear” saying that there are no plans to share about Disney World reopening at this time.
A few of the other Orlando park representatives weighed in as well. Rich Costales, Universal Orlando’s Executive Vice President of Resort Operations, added that Universal has announced the decision to remain closed through May 31st, and beyond that, they haven’t made a decision.
Costales explained that, like other parks, Universal Orlando is “in limbo” until they understand the recommendations of health professionals. He added, “To speculate past what we’ve announced wouldn’t be appropriate.” Brad Gilmour from SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment responded that he had “nothing to add” to the comments from Disney and Universal.
It certainly is interesting to get word FROM Disney on any new plans (or lack of plans, in this case!). We’ll be sure to continue our coverage of the Orange County Economic Recovery Task Force meetings.

I look forward to Disney opening sooner than later. If people are concerned than they should stay home. I am an annual pass holder and have had to change plans around many times. I realize this may be selfish of me but we should all be responsible enough to take the appropriate precautions. This is just my opinion.
If DW is trying to figure out a way to limit the number of guests entering the parks, they could consider only allowing guests to enter the parks that are staying on property in Disney owned hotels.
Sigh 😔
Thank goodness, it’s really too soon !
Why can’t they open the hotels and Disney Springs? I don’t always go to the parks. I live in FL. Going to the parks is a luxury. I go because I’m a DVC member, I stay at my home resort and then stroll and shop at Disney Springs. I just don’t understand why they can’t open this part of it. UNLESS, they’re restructuring big time. Never let a crisis go to waste.
Totally agree Teri and your not selfish, need to be adults and make your own decisions based on your age/health condition. CDC says this is equivalent to bad flu year and children affected less than flu. Unless people from now on wear masks through flu season it will be hypocritical. You have to protect yourself every flu season, but hopefully now if we continue the good hand washing yearly deaths from flu will be lower. While more communicable between people, which is why we had to protect possibly overburdening the health care system, we cannot destroy our economy and watch as alcohol, drugs, suicide consume more than the virus itself.
I think it’s time for Disney World and Disneyland to seriously begin considering letting annual passholders and people staying at park resorts. We are all adults enough to decide if we feel safe enough to go…
