While Disney Springs and CityWalk have moved forward in reopening restaurants and stores, there have also been talks about small businesses and the NBA opening back up again too.
Since Phase One was expected to last for a few weeks after it began on May 4th, today the Governor has shared that Florida will be starting a new iteration of the reopening process soon. Learn about Florida’s “Full Phase One.”
Florida has been in Phase One for a while, but in a press conference Governor Ron DeSantis, the governor, explained that reevaluation has brought some changes and that a “full phase one” is the next step. This phase of reopening will be effective Monday, May 18th.
During this time, restaurants will move up to 50% indoor capacity. DeSantis encouraged the use of spacing tables and plexiglass as much as possible for this transition. Retail, museums, and libraries will also move to 50% capacity, although local governments have the say on museums and libraries under their purview.
Newly able to open are the gyms of Florida. The governor reminds folks to be mindful of distancing and lauded Crossfit and outdoor workouts as a safer option.
Beyond this, he explained that they want sports back and running saying that any Florida sports venue is pretty much good to go. DeSantis had a message to teams to start training because when the season starts, they’re on. He even mentioned that anyone in states where sports can’t play is welcome to use Florida facilities.
During this phase, amusement parks are not cleared to open but they CAN submit reopening plans to the state. The governor asked that these parks identify a certain reopen date ensuring safe operations. Beyond that, parks will require endorsement from local officials. Safety is first, but Florida wants to work towards a “yes” on theme parks. Movie theaters were not mentioned and will likely remain closed into Phase Two.
At this time Disney World, Universal Orlando, and other theme parks haven’t made a statement about when they’ll be reopening, we’ll keep you updated with more information! Do note, that June Disney World reservations are beginning to be canceled and that Disney World reservations are currently available beginning July 1.
