We’ve been awaiting updates from Disney World regarding their now confirmed reopening that will begin on July 11th.
Now, it appears Disney has shared a LOT more specifics concerning their reopening procedures. We shared the changes announced to transportation, but one of the BIGGEST updates seems to center on the requirements to even ENTER the resort hotels!
Thanks to Twitter user @ScottGustin, who alerted folks to Disney’s updates on their site, we now know that Disney will be requiring guests to have a confirmed Disney hotel reservation OR a confirmed dining reservation (if not staying overnight) to enter the resort hotels.
So it appears that unless you have a confirmed reason to be visiting a reopened resort hotel, for the time being, you won’t be permitted to enter. (Oh, and you’ll need a mask, too.)
Now, Disney has currently paused the option to make any dining or hotel reservations right now as they clear out their reservations system to re-work it for reduced capacity management. So how are you supposed to MAKE those dining and hotel reservations? Stay tuned. Disney has not yet released the full details of their new theme park reservations system or the updated hotel/dining reservation system. What we DO know is that dining reservations will now be allowed 60 days in advance instead of 180 days in advance.
We’re monitoring these new developments and will update you with more information as it’s released.

Megan says
Are we sure that you can’t hotel hop if you are a hotel guest? The wording is unclear- I am hoping it means “you will need a reservation at any Disney hotel” vs just a local wanting to visit the hotel – any confirmation on any of that
Rick says
Honest opinion…I have a July 26th vacation paid for for my family of 6 and am coming from New Jersey. Is there any slight indication the quarantine requirement will be lifted….I’m trying to make a decision and have had to already reschedule once.
Chris says
I wonder how this will impact DVC pool hopping.
Jane says
Will this mean if you are not a guest or do not have a dining reservation, guests will not be allowed to go to Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto, the Enchanted Rose, other Resort bars? These places don’t have reservations, so I’m just wondering how that will work. Or do you think they will they require a reservation to enter bars as well?
Jennifer Beaver says
Hi, just looking for clarification, but if I have a confirmed hotel stay, does that currently limit me to only my hotel? I understand the dining reservation, but I’m talking about just exploring other resorts. Thanks in advance!
DFB Sarah says
Jennifer, it seems like the answer to that is yes, but the wording is vague enough that there may be some variation from that in practice. If we do confirm either way, we will update.
DFB Sarah says
Jane, that’s a good question. The language seems to indicate you need a Resort reservation OR a dining reservation, but to me it seems vague enough that there could be deviations from that. I’m going to see if we can clarify.
DFB Sarah says
Rick, I wish we had a crystal ball so we could help clarify this, but it will depend on the progress of Florida’s phase two and whether they think they can loosen those restrictions in phase three. There’s no word on this yet, as far as I know.
DFB Sarah says
Megan, I’ve posed this to the team so we can see if we can get clarification.
Penny says
Well, I predict things are not gonna go well for them financially. We’ve already made the decision to cancel our annual passes because we refuse to wear masks in the Orlando heat and humidity of July, but this just adds insult to injury. An end to resort hopping to just visit the various bars and see holiday decorations etc. If that’s our”t too, what’s the point of local pass holders even going.?
Steven S. in NJ says
I am SO GLAD that my trip isn’t until October, as Disney seems to have forgotten to have the left hand talk to the right hand. This confusion is only making the Magic disappear faster than our national supply of disinfecting wipes.
Margaret says
I just got off the phone with Disney regarding my upcoming trip. She did confirm that the reservation will have to be at the resort you want to visit. So, if I want to go in any resort other than where I am staying, I will need to make a dining reservation.
Cindy says
I would hope resort hopping will not be prohibited as long as temperature checks, distancing and face masks are observed. It’s one of the fun things to do, especially if our time in the parks will be limited.
DFB Sarah says
Thanks, Margaret!
DFB Sarah says
Steven, this gave me a sad and a happy chuckle all at once.
Kay L Potucek says
Could you direct me to the url location for the Disney post: Top Things You Need to Know, please?
DFB Sarah says
Kay, I’m not sure if this is what you’re referring to, but here’s Disney’s general travel information page with info about reopening.
NENolan says
I’ll cut Disney some slack because this is something no one has dealt with before and everyone is still learning how to cope with it and still reopen for business but this is so murky. A reservation at any Disney hotel reservation or a reservation at the hotel you want to visit? If a Disney resort guest cannot visit another on-property hotel then just state no resort hopping for crying out loud! 🙄 That makes a big difference! Our trip isn’t until December so I’m just glad it is not coming up anytime soon. Good Grief!
DFB Sarah says
NENolan, I happen to agree with you; I wish it was crystal clear.
