When visiting the reopened Disney World parks, all Cast Members and guests aged two and older are required to wear an approved face covering.
And comments from Orange County officials, one of the counties in which Walt Disney World Resort is located, indicate that guests and Cast Members alike should prepare for the face mask requirement to stick around for a while.
The beginning of August marks the fifth straight week of downward-trending COVID-19 positivity rates in Orange County. But according to the Orlando Sentinel, that doesn’t mean we can expect a relaxation of face mask policies any time soon. Orange County officials have said that residents should be prepared to wear masks and adhere to other restrictions until at least the new year or longer.
Dr. Raul Pino, the health officer for the Florida Department of Health in Orange County, said that the mask requirement could last, “Until maybe the spring, or until we have a vaccine.” Pino credited local face-covering requirements with helping to contain the spike in positive infections.
On June 20, Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings’ mask order went into effect, requiring face coverings in all public places. Positivity rates in Orange County have decreased in each of the four full weeks since the order was implemented.
Mayor Demings expressed a message similar to that of Dr. Pino, saying that existing guidelines and regulations can help the county diminish future upticks in cases. Based on these comments by local officials, it appears that mask requirements in Disney World could persist well into next year.

Hope not or that’s my April trip cancelled – that would be the 3rd reschedule but just couldn’t do it wearing a muzzle
Guess I won’t be going on my trip for a long time. When Disney is back to normal. I’ll spend the money. Until then, no thank you.
Nope. Ain’t doin’ it. I’ll remember the good ole’ days of DisneyWorld. Thank God that in 2018, I went 4 times. Once or twice in 2019. Those fun days are over.
Oh, good grief! Let’s just wrap ourselves in cellophane for the rest of our lives!!!
It is very encouraging that the virus numbers keep trending downward especially in an area that attracts many people from different places. Keep up the great work Orlando!
I thought WDW was its own municipality?
I’m curious how this will be handled when it comes to the Disney marathon. Running with a mask could be difficult
Hmmm I Attend to agree with a lot of the other comments I rescheduled from this past July to next year 21 July if they still require them then we’re done with Disney nope ain’t doing it not going They better rethink that real hard
My wife and I were just there two weeks ago. No problem wearing the masks. The place is so magical the food so amazing the beer is still cold
Just wish there was an accommodation for those of us who cannot wear a mask for medical reasons. 🙁
Tim, WDW is in the Reedy Creek Improvement District (a bit like a town with limited powers) which is inside Orange County. WDW can have it’s own Fire Department but not a police department. There is an Orange County Sheriff’s department office on the premises.
As soon as the mask mandate is lifted park attendance will explode.
Hard pass. Call me when the park is back to normal. If that ever happens.
Parks may never be the same again. And I bet a lot of us won’t bother going back. I know I won’t.
Darn shame.
Makes sense …the virus doesn’t have a timeline. The more we wear masks and socially distance the less sickness and deaths, which is a good thing. Epidemiologists have said this is a 12 – 18 month process and we are 5 months in.
Jeffrey, I got an email that the Wine and Dine marathon has been converted into a virtual race now. Apparently Disney will not mail the medals, if you are in the US. That might be the way the races go until things change with COVID.
I am a Florida resident with an annual pass.
I am going when the weather gets a bit cooler. I’m sure I’ll be fine with a mask. If I feel too hot and uncomfortable I will leave. I’m hoping all Florida residents that are fortunate enough to go for the day as long as they feel safe doing so, go to help support WDW which has given us so much happiness !
Just cancelled our annual trip and getting my annual pass refund…. A mask, outdoors in Florida ? Nuts
just came here to see all the people complaining and saying they will never go back… looks like decreased crowds to me!
Michelle,
I’m currently signed up for a Dopey next January but have not received any updates since signing up. We made our 2021 hotel reservations and got park tickets to coincide and are planning on getting trip insurance in case the races get cancelled. I’d really hate for that to be the case, but I honestly don’t know how I’d be able to run all 4 races with a mask on.
Are you required to wear a mask on the ride?
I have a Dec 2020 trip scheduled, but pending the mask requirement, we will cancel.
Danielle, yes, at present, masks must be worn on rides.
What is the point of wearing masks when your photo is taken? People like to see expressions when their picture is taken. Same thing for rides. It’s not worth spending money on Photo Pass. There hasn’t been any out breaks so far at WDW, its so lame Disney has to be too strict with the slow resort openings too.
I think it is really poor of WDW to discriminate against those who cannot wear a mask and are exempt for medical reasons. I have a trip booked for September 2022 and if by any chance these requirements will be in place then, I will move the holiday forward until they are not. It’s not about not wanting to respect the rules, I just cannot wear a mask at all or I have a panic attack. I also would not last the 9-hour flight that way. I applaud everyone who can wear a mask and are used to it. However, even without the mask issue, I wouldn’t go to the States the way the covid cases are compared to the UK and for the fact that it is not being handled properly. I read today that there is like more a 100,000 cases a day of COVID-19 in America now and its shocking that they have those cases but yet, no lockdowns to control the virus. No wonder, the cases are so bad. It’s such a shame but we pray for a better tomorrow and for no one else to lose their life to this horrid virus.
The thing that really bothers me is that cases are up because we are testing SOOO MANY MORE PEOPLE. Of course, the number would go up but the PERCENTAGES are going DOWN!! Naturally the media doesn’t want to report that important fact!!
