And, in response, the Service Trades Council Union, which represents 43,000 Cast Members at Walt Disney World, has released a statement on their Twitter account.
“We were disappointed to learn that the Covid-19 crisis has led Disney to make the decision to layoff Cast Members,” they wrote. “Unlike at the other theme parks and hotels in Central Florida, Disney workers have a voice at the table because of our Union. We have begun negotiations with the Company about this news and its impact to Union members. How many full-time and part-time Cast Members will be affected, how long health insurance and recall rights will continue and many other issues crucial to Cast Members are on the table. As soon as more information becomes available, we will notify our members.”

Previously, Disney stated that 67% of the layoffs would affect part-time workers, and that they will be reducing the size of the Parks, Experiences, and Products division “across executive, salaried, and hourly roles.”

We’ve already seen some layoffs around Walt Disney World. The Grand Floridian Society Orchestra revealed their final performance will be on October 3rd, and Port Orleans — Riverside performer Yehaa Bob revealed he had been laid off.

Please, please, please, stop referring to the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim as simply Disneyland. Disneyland is only a theme park at the Disneyland Resort. Referring to the entire Disney property in Anaheim (and of that it contains) as Disneyland is sloppy journalism. Do better.

I hope Disney will transfer and employ some of these people at shopDisney. I recently ordered one item and it took THREE WEEKS for it to be shipped (then more than another week to arrive.) If this is their situation September, I can’t imagine the delays once the holidays come near. Clearly their online division is busy and could use more employees.

However, as as a Cast Member of the Walt Disney Company for the past 33 years, I can assure you that the use of proper nomenclature by MSM and Citizen Journalists is something the company takes seriously.
The entire Disney property in Orlando is officially known as Walt Disney World. The entire Disney property in Anaheim is officially known as The Disneyland Resort.
The components of The Disneyland Resort are:
*Disneyland park
*Disney California Adventure park
*Downtown Disney
*Disneyland Hotel
*Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel
*Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa
When a journalist simply states “Disneyland” it implies only Disneyland park, not the property as a whole.
A journalist would never use the title of Magic Kingdom when referring to Walt Disney World, and a journalist should never use the title Disneyland when referring to The Disneyland Resort.
In fact, DFB correctly refers to the Orlando property as Walt Disney World all the time, but they consistently refer to the Anaheim property as only “Disneyland”. They do not take the time to use The Disneyland Resort title. Why would they do what is correct for Orlando, but not do what is correct for Anaheim? This is why I said it was a situation of them being sloppy. It’s either that, or they truly are not knowledgeable about the correct nomenclature for the Anaheim property. In either case, it’s simple to fix. Just be mindful and do better.
