If you’ve been to Magic Kingdom at Disney World recently, you might have noticed that Rivers of America looks VERY different.
In case you missed it, the two attractions on Rivers of America, the Liberty Square Riverboat and Tom Sawyer Island, are both down for lengthy refurbishments. As a result, we’ve been slowly seeing the water from Rivers of America get drained.
It wasn’t that long ago that we noticed the water had been completely drained from the Rivers, but there was still a little bit of standing water pooling around. Today, though, the Rivers of America looks nothing like a river at all!
You can see the riverboat’s track very clearly now.
We already miss the view of the water. What little water remains, seems to have become a popular spot for birds. Walking to the Haunted Mansion just isn’t the same now.
We’ve seen it like this before, and it will be refilled before we know it! We’ll be keeping an eye on the Rivers of America and let you know about any updates!

30 years ago I lost a Mickey Mouse watch to that river. I wonder if they found it.

Kind of like riding Space Mt with the lights on.

Do we have an idea when the river and necessary refurb is scheduled to be completed?

Interesting pictures! Does the ship run on an underground rail?

Karla, it’s expected to last through Spring 2021.

Chris my husband who is quite a talented artist painted a picture of Harper’s Mill for son John for Christmas as Tom Sawyer’s Island is one of his favourite places on earth. He’s 47 by the way and has done tons of world travelling for work so it’s not like he doesn’t get out much! It’s interesting to see Harper’s Mill in its newly painted state. Looking forward to seeing how the island and river look after refurbishment is completed.
