Disney has just released ANOTHER change for Disney World Resort guests.
Earlier this year Disney announced that complimentary MagicBands will be discontinued for resort guests in favor of expanded mobile capabilities. Now, it seems another FREE offering is going to see some change too!
Disney has just announced that beginning January 1st, 2021, free souvenir luggage tags will no longer be mailed to Disney World Resort guests’ homes prior to their arrival in Disney World. That’s ANOTHER snail mail offering off the table!
As a reminder, these free luggage tags feature favorite Disney characters and typically arrived as part of the pre-trip welcome package to a resort guest’s home.
Don’t worry though, you won’t have to say goodbye to your cute Disney tags altogether! Guests will now be able to pick up their Magical Extras and Souvenir Luggage Tags at the front desk of their hotel at anytime during their stay.
Hm… January 1st sure does seem like a pretty important day when it comes to Disney World changes! Stay tuned to DFB to make sure you’re up to date on all the news and coverage for the New Year!

Barbara says
Was that service at certain resorts. I only know of the baggage tags from Magical Express which are not available at this time, not through service for luggage. I have been going at least once a year since 2004 to now 2020. I do have lots of Magicbands.
Julie says
Hopefully they will actually give us something back instead of taking things away. Like give us back some normalcy in the parks…fast passes, characters, etc
you were thinking says
Why don’t they just mail them when you get home, lol
DanielleV says
Right I have to agree with another person who commented. Why would we pick up luggage tags when we’re at the resort the whole purpose of the luggage tags is to put them on our luggage prior to taking a flight out for our trip…… Perplexing….
Ken says
I do not understand…? What are free luggage tags..? If I am staying at a Disney resort, and using Magical express, don’t I get luggage tags to track my bags from departure airport to the resort? We’re these something different?
Louis says
I didn’t know that they still sent out the luggage tags.
I haven’t seen any of them for years.
Amy says
I’m with Barbara. I’ve never heard of souvenir luggage tags. Maybe it’s non DVC guests or certain resorts?
Joanne says
It’s very sad that the little things like complimentary luggage tags…you do need them BEFORE you get there…and important magic bands…not everyone has a SMART PHONE…are being taken away. These things are part of what made a Disney trip special as compared to other resorts.
Eric Erickson says
I’m an Annual Passholder & haven’t received free luggage tags since I became one 13 years ago (I typically stay at WDW resorts 3-5 times a year for 12 nights each trip). Prior to becoming an Annual Passholder, I was only receiving a single luggage tag “sporadically” — about once every three trips! I didn’t even know they were still doing this!
J M says
Believe me, the cost of those “free” luggage tags are bundled into the price of your Disney Vacation Package. Why not just add the cost of the postage and continue mailing them to you?
Graham Parsons says
Magicbands, luggage tags……..what is next…….charge guests for riding the buses………….Parking (Oh, wait)….?
As a frequent traveler to WDW and staying 10-12 day s on property each trip, it is truly getting harder and harder to open my wallet with their changes. In the past I have accepted the fact that you will have to pay a higher price for a clean, secure and complete vacation package but when they start “Nickel and Diming” us, I will look to other venues.
Margaret+Zukoski says
Disney is really nickel and diming here….They are being SO cheap….This was for Disney’s Magical Express only…And now you have to pick up your luggage at the front desk? THAT was part of the magic, when your luggage would “magically” appear in your room! People keep accepting all these cuts…and they keep spending their money there, so Disney will keep cutting as long as people keep paying!
Capt. Jack says
Come-on Receiving your luggage tags before your trip was part of the Disney Experience!!! Quit Nickle & diming the Magic out of Disney !!!
Randi Briggs says
I’m curious what is going to happen to people who are not comfortable with a smart phone? Although that isn’t me, I do wonder. Smart phones don’t always work either.
Carlton says
Disney has been nickel and diming guests for years. I have been staying on property twice a year (2-3 weeks a trip) for over 10 years, and it seems like the last few years they have added costs for things that were previously complementary (like resort parking). For the price that they charge for their rooms, even with hefty discounts, they should not be trying to squeeze every penny that they can out of guests. I cancelled my last trip due to the pandemic, but I’m not sure that I will resume visits after the pandemic. BTW, the last few trips I have been dividing time between Disney and Universal, and staying on Universal property is much more reasonable for comparable accomodations. Reminds me of my first Disney trip in 2000!
Paulette Fan says
So, how do they know which luggage to take when I arrive in Orlando?
Su Goods says
We have not received luggage tags before our visits for years!!! We assume this changed long ago. We always stay at the GFor CR. Unfortunately we took all our Magic Bands to WDW last December to have them recycled. Had we known about the change we would not have done so.
Janet says
I haven’t received a free Souvenir Luggage Tag from Disney in years (the last free souvenir tag that comes to mind was probably at the turn of the millennium). Heck, for my last vacation at the end of 2019, I had to call the Magical Express people more than once in order to get them to mail enough Magical Express tags for everyone in my party (they only sent enough for one or two people even though they knew there were more people in my party).
DFB Sarah says
Paulette, this isn’t expected to affect the Disney’s Magical Express tag process when/if that returns. This is for the plastic tags Disney used to send with MagicBands.
DFB Sarah says
Margaret, this post refers to the American Tourister free luggage tags that Disney used to send. I recall getting them in my box with my MagicBands in the past. We’re adding a picture to the post to clarify.
DFB Sarah says
Ken, these were different. We’re clarifying in the post.
David Gonzalez says
Hello,
I’m arriving to WDW on April 24 to May 1 (1st Time Ever) and I received my Magic Band I purchased and one luggage tag. Luggage tags are still free, but you need to purchase a Magic Band when you make your reservation. Just thought I’d let you know AJ.
Keep up the great work!
Peter Calabrese says
I never got luggage tags and have been going since 95. Interesting that I’m not getting something I never got anyway.
Pattie says
The last time we flew to Disney I had to call twice to get out luggage tags and will call again soon to ask them to send them to us and I we heard right I guess they don’t send free magic bands this next trip will decide if we ever go again we have had annual passes for over 26 years and started. coming there way b 4 we became annual Passholders we know Disney has lost a lot of money but they hurt more if people can’t come there anymore and we started going to universal r some where else
DFB Sarah says
Thanks for sharing, David!
Melissa says
We have a Disney trip booked for the end of March 2021 and just received our Magic Bands AND luggage tags in the mail today. Maybe they still send them if you purchase new Magic Bands?
DFB Sarah says
Melissa, if you purchase MagicBands, they are expected to ship to you. Happy to hear you received luggage tags!
Samantha Dorler says
I just received our luggage tags in the mail and we don’t leave till next Wednesday.. I was completely stocked when they came!!!
