Disney’s Art of Animation resort is getting a pretty MAJOR makeover.

Following the ongoing overhaul of the Big Blue Pool, next up are the giant character pages along the entrance! That’s right: this Disney World hotel is getting a facelift.
Ever since Art of Animation reopened in November, we’ve been checking in on progress with the various refurbishments and projects happening throughout the resort, and the latest update is a pretty MAJOR one!

Giant character pages adorned with the likes of Ariel and Nemo famously flank the outside walls along the hotel’s main building. Or should we say “flanked!” Seeing as each portrait is representative of the four different sections of the hotel, these were pretty iconic!

Well, it’s the end of a new era and the start of a new chapter, because the character pages are being ERASED! *Pause for audible gasp*

They’ve already completely erased the Lightning McQueen page…

…and they’re making FAST work of Ariel!

Seriously, we looked away for what felt like 10 minutes, and half her head was gone!

Next up appears to be Nemo and Simba!

Working as a well-oiled team, it appears crews are using scrapers similar to what’s used for billboards, and then they take a solution with rags to clean the surface, probably to remove any lingering adhesives. Whatever solution they’re using certainly smells STRONG, and it’s clearly helping them move through the process quickly.

How long will this refurbishment take? Any word on completion dates?
Robin, not that I know of. We will keep checking on the progress.
Maintenance. They gotta do it sooner or later with the bride Florida Sun. It is what killed the 20,000 Leagues attraction….maintenance. Too bad that can’t do it overnight like they do at the parks
Is there any word on what they are doing with the Port Orleans hotel?
why would they do this? It’s one of the best things about AoA
@Ken, as far as 20,000 leagues goes it was the ADA and Pooh sized riders that sunk the subs…it’s a shame Disney couldn’t of fixed that somehow?..great attraction…
And I’m sure OSHA will get a kick out of the photos of the workers straddling the tops of those ladders at AoA…Lol
