Restaurants all over Disney World have been reopening, but we’ve also spotted some NEW items at spots that have been open for a while.
Recently, 4 NEW burgers (some of which are brand new, others of which are new takes on old classics) and a new pasta dish arrived at Sci-Fi Dine-In Restaurant and they’re fairly pricey. So, we made our way over there today to give them a try and see if they’re worth it. Warning: you may not want to read this review while hungry!
Located in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Sci-Fi Dine-In totally transports you back in time! You actually get to sit in convertible cars and watch clips of old movies as if you were at a real drive-in movie theater.
This spot is known for its incredible ambience and can be a pretty hard reservation to get. So if you’re hoping to eat here and you happen to see a reservation appear, you’ll probably want to snag it quickly!
Alright, but enough about the atmosphere, let’s get into the food and drinks!
We couldn’t get the burgers and pasta without something to drink. So, today we went for the Spicy Martian Margarita and the Long Island Lunar Tea.
The Spicy Martian Margarita is made of Patrón Silver Tequila, Ancho Reyes Verde Liqueur, Lime Juice, and Pure Cane Sugar. This is essentially your classic margarita, but the added pepper liqueur gives it a spicy kick! It is fun and refreshing without being terribly spicy.
You do need to enjoy a bit of heat in your drink to like this one though, so keep that in mind! You can try it for $14.
Next, it’s time for some Long Island Lunar Tea. This drink is made with Bacardí Superior Rum, Tito’s Handmade Vodka, Hendrick’s Gin, Corazon Blanco Tequila, Cointreau, and Sweet-and-Sour with a splash of Coca-Cola.
This is a seriously delicious Long Island iced tea! It is strong, but not exceedingly so. We really enjoyed it. There’s nothing too special about it, but it’s delicious just as it is.
If you like Long Island iced tea, this is one we think you’ll enjoy! You can grab it for $15. Note that neither of these drinks are new, but we still wanted to share our thoughts about them with you!
Okay, let’s get to the burgers!
We’ll start with The Feature Film Burger. This burger changes so you’ll want to ask your car hop about the newest feature. Previously, this was just referred to as the “Seasonal Specialty Burger” and it was typically the Southern Burger. During our visit, we got to try the NEW pork-on-pork burger.
This burger is made of a pork patty with slices of thick pork on top. This burger is absolutely delicious and very juicy. The pork patty was actually one of our reporter’s favorite patties out of all the patties they ate. And this burger has a slaw on it that packs a slight amount of heat, which adds a great level of flavor.
But, the slices of pork on top of the patty are pretty fatty (hey, that rhymes). Or, at least they were when we got the sandwich. Half of it had some great pieces of pork, while the other half was more on the fatty side. If you love fatty meat, then that might be great for you. But, if you don’t like fatty meats, that’s something to keep in mind.
You can grab this pork-on-pork feature film burger for $22.50 (just keep in mind that you might encounter a totally different version of the feature film burger on a future visit).
Next up, we have the NEW version of the Drive-In BBQ Burger. This burger is made of a Signature Blend of Beef and House-made Seasoning and is served on a Brioche Bun topped with 9-hour Smoked Pork, Bourbon-Bacon Jam, Cheddar, Lettuce, and Barbecue Sauce.
The older version of the Drive-In BBQ Burger didn’t have the pulled pork on top or the bourbon-bacon jam, but instead had an onion ring and crispy-fried jalapeños. We are pretty happy with these recent changes to the burger though because the new version of the Drive-In BBQ Burger is great!
The bourbon-bacon jam is a total delight! It adds so much flavor to the burger overall, giving it a nice balance of savory and sweet.
The patty we got was perfectly cooked and very juicy. And the pulled pork on top brings the whole dish together. It adds a nice level of sweetness thanks to the barbecue sauce, but also a good amount of saltiness from the pork. Every bite has a perfect blend of those flavors, mixed in with the cheddar cheese.
This burger was a BIG favorite of ours! You can try it for $21.50.
Got room for more? Okay great, then let’s move on to the NEW version of the Classic American Burger. This burger is made of a Signature Blend of Beef with House-made Burger Sauce, American Cheese, Applewood-smoked Bacon, Shredded Lettuce, and Marinated Heirloom Tomato, and is served on a Brioche Bun.
This burger is (once again we’ve gotta say it) delicious!! This is basically a classic bacon cheeseburger with lettuce and tomato and it is AMAZING.
Sci-Fi has had an American Burger on the menu for a while. The main changes with this one is that it doesn’t have caramelized onions anymore and now features shredded lettuce.
But, even with those changes this burger is GOOD. It is juicy, has lots of great flavors, and no condiments are really necessary — it’s fantastic just as it’s made.
You can try this burger for $19.
And finally that brings us to our last new burger of the bunch, the Salmon Burger. This burger is made with a Fresh House-made Grilled Salmon Patty, served on a Brioche Bun, and topped with Goat Cheese Crema, Apple-Fennel Chutney, Arugula, and Marinated Heirloom Tomato.
The salmon burger is really good! The flavor of the salmon itself is great, and not really fishy at all. It is very fresh-tasting and the salmon patty is actually quite large.
The sauce on the burger is a bit much though, at least for us. So, you might want to ask for that sauce on the side so you can control just how much you put on there.
But, overall, this is a really good choice if you want a burger but don’t want a traditional meat patty. You can try it for $23.
Keep in mind that each of the burgers comes with french fries, but you can substitute onion rings for an additional $2.49.
And last, but certainly not least, we had to try the NEW Pan-seared Salmon Pasta! This dish features Pappardelle Pasta tossed in a Lemon Butter Sauce with Rainbow Tomatoes, Onions, and Spinach, which is served with a Toasted Garlic Crostini.
Again, Sci-Fi has had pasta for a while, but it has typically been chicken or shrimp, and it has been tossed in a smoked tomato four-cheese cream sauce. This pasta features salmon and a totally different sauce.
We actually really enjoyed this dish. The lemon butter wine sauce and the salmon were both very fresh-tasting.
The vegetables in the dish almost made us feel like we were eating something totally healthy (we’ll just pretend we didn’t also just eat onion rings and other unhealthy goodies).
It was a nice, light dish. If you’re not looking for something fried or too heavy, this could be a great option!
You can get this for $25.
Overall, if you’re a burger person, we think the Classic American Burger and the Drive-In BBQ Burger are amazing choices. Sci-Fi is a great spot to sit back, relax, grab a delicious burger, and just enjoy!
The one thing we’ll say though is that these burgers are pricey. They’re all very tasty, but you’re paying a pretty big price for them, and much of that probably has to do with the fact that you’re essentially paying a bit for the fun atmosphere you’ll be eating them in.
That’s not to say the burgers themselves aren’t great, because they truly are. But, eating here is a bit of a splurge. You just have to keep in mind that you’re paying for the food plus the unique experience.
