Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance is an interactive Star Wars-themed ride in Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
The ride opened in December 2019, and since then it’s used a virtual queue to admit guests. Using the My Disney Experience app, guests can try and reserve a spot starting at 7AM on the day of their visit. These spots are usually gone by 7:01AM, but today there were still available spots WAY later!
While we were in Disney’s Hollywood Studios today, we checked on the boarding passes (the name for ride reservations on Rise of the Resistance) to see if any were available. To our surprise, there were still some available after 8AM — an hour after the virtual queue opened!
These passes generally run out FAST in the mornings, but guests can try again for a boarding pass at 1PM on the same day. We’ve seen these afternoon passes remain available for a little longer lately, but we’ve never seen such a long opening window for the morning passes.
Disney World crowd levels are REALLY low right now, which likely accounts for the increased availability of boarding passes. We even saw a stand-by line for Rise of the Resistance a couple of weeks ago!
We’ll keep an eye on the passes and let you know how long they’re staying open! Keep following DFB for more news about the crazy low crowds in Disney World.

Do you think the shorter wait times at the parks recently and more open spots on the virtual queue signal people are waiting till October to visit? Or is end of August/September just a really good month to go with low crowd level?
Brittney, if I had to guess, it’s due more to school being back in session. But we are likely going to find large crowds in October, so that could be a factor as well.
Do you think crowd levels will increase in September after the annual passes are released? Or are people just waiting for October? Love your site, thanks!!
Ashley, it’s hard to say, but I’d wager that October will be busier overall than September is.
My thoughts are…every time we have riden this ride ride it has broken down and you have to wait for more than a half an hour so….Sunday we just left! It was easy to get the reservation but the wait time was terrible and you never know how long you have to wait.
If I am at Animal Kingdom at 1pm, will I be able to try and get in the virtual que for Rise of the Resistance? Or do I have to be IN Hollywood Studios to do that?
To travel in September was always the best time to travel to
disney parks . The schools are going back for another year . If I could plan my vacation it would be in September . Is it going to be very busy in October with the virus going up . How many discounts is Disney coming up with to get people to come . This year will be something to watch 50 Anniversary will it make people travel and spend money .
Wendy, for the 1PM attempt, you need to be inside Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
We are going Oct. 2022 during the week So how do you think the crowd levels will be?
Liane, impossible to say for sure. Given the 50th celebration, October may be significantly busier than typical, but weekdays are generally lower crowds, so hopefully it won’t be overwhelming.
