Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind has officially opened!
We’ve already been able to ride this attraction a couple times, so we can answer an important question — will this ride make you sick?!
Don’t worry, we’re not going to give you any major spoilers about the ride. However, if you would rather remain completely in the dark about everything having to do with Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, you should turn back now!
Okay, now that that’s out of the way, let’s get into it. This ride has been described by Disney as a family-friendly Omnicoaster, which means that the ride vehicles spin around a full 360 degrees on the track while traveling at high speeds. So, naturally, we’ve been wondering about motion sickness.
The sensation of this ride was like a combo of Space Mountain and Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster — it’s very dark inside! We found that the intensity was between the two coasters, it’s more intense than Space Mountain but less intense than Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster. We even thought it was less intense than Expedition Everest. And, for anyone concerned, this coaster does NOT go upside down, but it does go backwards.
Agreed with other things I’ve heard that it’s a combo of Space Mountain and Rock n Roller Coaster. Definitely elements of those two here.

But, Cosmic Rewind is very smooth and it doesn’t stop throughout the ride. The first time we rode through, we felt a little bit nauseous. But the second time…yikes — we were sweatin’ a little bit! We started to get that feeling that you get when you might be sick, but luckily we didn’t actually get sick. However, after the ride, we did have to sit down and take a small break!
👀 I will be using my nausea bands on this next ride. I don’t usually have motion sickness on rides, but the combo of darkness, very mild spinning, and your eyes trying to figure out which way to look was nausea-inducing for me.

However, the other person we rode with didn’t feel sick at all! They felt fine. So, it really just depends on the person, different people may react differently!
If you’re prone to motion sickness, you’ll want to take all of this into account before riding. Maybe take some Dramamine or get some nausea bands for yourself! Whatever usually works best for you.
Some other tips to beat the motion sickness: make sure whatever you eat before riding is small (not a huge buffet meal) and try to request row 5 or 6. At least to us, it seemed to be slightly better in the middle.
And if you happen to get sick from the attraction, cast members are offering sickness bags at the exit as needed. They won’t be sitting out, so you’ll need to ask a cast member for one. (Yikes, looks like motion sickness is a common occurrence on this attraction if these are being offered.)
We know this isn’t the best news for some people (including some of us at DFB), but we hope everyone can find something that makes riding this attraction possible! In the meantime, stay tuned to DFB the latest Disney news and updates.

This article was no help to me. Nausea on a ride is subjective. My sister gets nauseated on Soarin’, Star Tours, and Flight of Passage. I do not. I avoid rides that are known for inducing vomitting (Mission Space). I have not vomitted after a coaster. Am I ok?

Count me out. Now there is nothing for me on the left side of the park as you enter. Cosmic, Mission and Test tract are all off my list. (Test track is ok, but the informative and educational aspect has been traded for being a dark ride thru the trees). Disney has ruined this area for family fun and entertainment.

Yeah, my wife and I both got sick and won’t be riding again. At this point Disney has to admit it blew it with this one and come up with a solution. I suggest a MISSION: SPACE redux. Make one side ORANGE and full bore and make the other side GREEN with cars that do not spin during the ride except for turning 180 degrees just before the “backwards launch” so you are facing forward for the entire ride. It would become a more traditional rollercoaster-like ride which doesn’t make most people sick.

Thank you very much for this information. I have motion sickness and will plan accordingly.
Cindy says
Thank you for posting this. If they are handing out barf bags, that is a giant clue for me.

Left on comment on the last post about this ride and reposting here in hopes it helps others make a decision if this is for them: This is the first coaster ride that has ever made me so sick after! I have ridden all the Disney “intense” rides and loved them all, but this one just hit different like the reporter said, the spinning, backwards and visuals combination was too much. I did not throw up, but certainly was shaky and needed to sit down for lunch after to feel better. Also made the BIG mistake of allowing my 6 year old to ride, she met the height requirement and it is being advertised as a “family omnicoaster” but it is far from. She did not throw up, but was also nauseous after and said she hated it. I am huge Marvel fan, specifically went to Epcot to experience this ride, but will never ride this one again!

Super helpful (if a bit disappointing) thanks guys!

Loved the ride but one time is enough for me. I never get sick on roller coasters but had to sit down and breath deeply after this one to avoid hurling. The Cast member who works in the nearby cafe told me he had to clean up five vomits in the cafe from people who had been on Guardians. be warned!
