The opening of TRON Lightcycle / Run is fast approaching!
We’ve been seeing updates on construction almost daily and we recently even saw the entrance sign installed. Today we got even BIGGER news if you can believe it!
We officially saw today on Disney’s website that TRON Lightcycle / Run will be offered as an Individual Lightning Lane selection in addition to a virtual queue. Individual Lightning Lane, or ILL, is a pay-per-ride service for in-demand attractions that allow guest to skip the line on popular attraction for an upcharge.
As you can see, TRON is set to offer Individual Lightning Lanes and virtual queues starting April 4th, the opening day of the attraction. In the past, we have seen this before with rides like Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, and on opening day for other popular rides, Individual Lightning Lane passes sold out in minutes.
If you’ve never used the system before, Disney Genie is a complimentary service (with optional paid add-ons) inside Disney World’s My Disney Experience app that aids guests in planning their trip to the parks efficiently. Individual Lightning Lane Attraction Selections are one of the paid add-ons available, and they allow guests to ride some of the most popular attractions without the wait for a fee.
In order to take advantage of the system, you’ll be able to purchase the ride selection through Disney Genie on the day of your visit to Magic Kingdom. Once in this section of Disney Genie, you will be able to choose a specific window of time to visit the ride.
Note that if you’re staying at a Disney Resort hotel, you’ll be able to book your Lightning Lane through the My Disney Experience app starting at 7AM the day of your visit, and all others will be able to book one once the park opens.
Once your time window opens, just head to the ride and scan your ticket, MagicBand, or phone at the Lightning Lane queue entrance!
We will keep you updated with any news about this coming attraction as it’s released, so stay tuned to DFB!

Pay per ride is being announced as a GOOD thing???? Sorry, but as long as Disney keeps raising the price to get in the parks, it’ll be a cold day in hell before I agree to spend MORE money just to get on a ride.
They must really think we’re all stupid. Will I be getting an ILL for this ride? No. But the idea of it does make me feel ill.
Looking forward to upcoming trip in September this year with Tron definitely being at the top of our itinerary at MK. Will be using the LlI for that if we can’t catch a boarding que at 7am.
Hi, I don’t know if you noticed but the official start date in the ad says April 4th, 2024 for the Tron? Should that not say April 4th 2023? Just wondering. Thanks
I guess Iger really isn’t listening!
We plan to stay off property April 1-10. We would like to be able to do Tron but will this even be a possibility if we don’t stay at a resort where they are allowed first dibs at virtual que and paid lightning lane? Should I book at least one night on property? and can it be a value resort?
Hi Rob! Yes, for some reason Disney originally had 2024 on their website where we pulled those screenshots from, but they have since fixed it to say 2023.
Rich, I completely agree. Pay to get in the park, pay for genie+, then pay to ride the rides that you already played for with admission. They actually do think that we are stupid. It’s working on some. Not me, sad to say, as it is now, we won’t be back.
With Tron going on Individual Lightning Lane, will Seven Dwarfs Mine Train go to “regular paid” Genie +?
I had a a vacation booked for September and paid for in advance. The more I researched and all the negative comments I read changed my mind. I cancelled last week and received a full refund. Instead of fighting the crowds, paying extra for rides and Genie+, I’d rather spend a week relaxing at the beach. The magic of Disney is long gone.
