Breakfasts of Champions: Cinnamon Rolls in Disney World and Disneyland

What makes a better relaxing breakfast than a cinnamon roll? Luckily, Disney World and Disneyland have you covered — each in their own special way. Here are a couple of my favorite “breakfasts of champions” that include cinnamon roll goodness at our favorite Disney parks.

Disney World

First off, we’ll start in Walt Disney World at Magic Kingdom’s Main Street Bakery:

Main Street Bakery

Here, you can find one of Disney World’s most beloved treats, the Main Street Bakery cinnamon roll. You can find this monstrous pastry (seriously — it’s giant — consider sharing) at the end of the bakery line, where they’ll scoop the thing onto a plate and then — this is the best part — add another scoop of melt-y, cinnamon-y frosting on top!!! I couldn’t believe it when I first saw that. I love when Disney doesn’t short me on extravagance.

This is probably the biggest and most delicious cinnamon roll I’ve ever tasted, and — the most important part — the cinnamon ribbon and sweetness of the roll goes all the way through. Unlike some of those cheapie rolls I’ve had in the past, you really don’t ever reach a point where you simply hit dry pastry. Perfecto.

…I’m not sure that even the Main Street Bakery Cinnamon Roll can hold a candle to the Cinnamon Roll French Toast at Disneyland’s Carnation Cafe.

Disneyland's Carnation Cafe

It starts out innocently enough. Just looks like some reeeeeeally thick french toast, right? There’s even fruit involved! That’s got to be healthy, right? I was a little bit disappointed, until I spotted it…

…that little cup of deliciousness tucked behind the french toast is indeed your very own cup of Cream Cheese Icing (I think it’s worth capitalizing, don’t you?). Good heavens, my friends. When I was served my very own little cup of Cream Cheese Icing, I think I fell in love with Disneyland. And this wasn’t just any Cream Cheese Icing — this must have been injected with butter (at least it tasted that way). It did this lovely melt-y thing when spread on the warm french toast — lovely. And though you’d think you wouldn’t need to add the syrup on top, I can honestly say that it adds a great flavor to the dish.

So, yes. Cinnamon Rolls and Cinnamon Roll French Toast are slightly more sugary than my typical breakfast, and the decadence-level of these items probably wouldn’t be recommended as an everyday indulgence. But every once in a while, when you want to treat yourself to a rich, relaxing breakfast, this might be a fun way to begin your Disney day. Just be sure to schedule a nap later on!

They used to serve the best ones in the Land before the refurb of the food services there. My parents used to take me for one the first breakfast of every trip to the world…

I thought this was going to be a cinammon roll head-to-head at first. I’ve had them from both WDW & DL, and they’re similar, but I think the WDW ones are a bit better. It’s been a few years since I’ve had the DL one.

That Cinnamon Roll French Toast looks delicious though.

General bakery note: don’t go to the bakery that’s on your left when entering Downtown Disney from the main plaza in DL (can’t recall the name). We went there one morning and it wasn’t very good.

what a delicious visual to start my morning! it makes me want to make homemade cinnamon rolls right now. i just may have to. ;) i looooooooooooooooooove me a good cinnamon roll especially ones with lots & lots of icing!

Mark — Looks like a bum morning! Most other Cinnamon Roll photos I’ve seen from the Main St Bakery had the extra frosting, so you should be safe on your next visit…

Matt — Boo on guilt! Ptooey! :)

Adam — Sounds like a great tradition to me. The Land has always been a nostalgia factor for my family and me as well.

Scott — Nope, didn’t try the actual cinnamon rolls at DL (though they’re as big as BRICKS!!!) Thanks for the warning on La Brea Bakery. I haven’t been there, yet.

John — Ha! I can promise that I didn’t get any special treatment! I saw them do the same “extra frosting” ladle to the one in front of me!

Robin — Send some of those cinnamon rolls over to me!

  5. Lillian C. says

Oh, goodness. Cinnamon rolls are pretty deadly! Didn’t know the Carnation Cafe @ DL has cinnamon roll french toast…. Now I need to go to DL and try that. YUM!

  6. says

Lillian — Don’t those look incredible! Let me know if you head to DL to try out the French Toast!

I can’t even set foot in the bakery ever since the Dr. told me I have the cholesterol of a seagoing mammal. Those cinnamon rolls were my favorite. Luckily they have something similar at Starring Rolls. It’s a loophole.

Mark – ask for extra frosting. It works, or at least it has for me.

  8. says

Love the loophole idea, GG! Sorry about the seagoing mammal situation. My husband’s on medicine for that — works like a charm ;-)

  9. Shayne says

OMG, I’m sooooooooo hungry now! The cinnamon roll french toast looked a bit dry at first, but I’m sure once you heap all the yummy, melty frosting on there (and syrup!) that’s no longer an issue!
