If you’ve ever been to Disney World with little ones, you likely have experience with renting strollers. Stroller rental is a service that’s long been offered at Disney World parks.
But as of today, guests in Disney’s Animal Kingdom may find some additional rental options available, as the park has begun testing NEW strollers!
The single and double test strollers both feature padded seating and pouches for carrying small items. They look and feel quite a bit different from the usual plastic Disney World strollers — pictured below — which are also still available.
The test strollers do appear more streamlined and comfortable, but they might be a bit more difficult to clean.
The cost to rent a test stroller is the same as the price to rent a stroller anywhere in Disney World, as pictured below. There were limited quantities of the test strollers available when we were there, and they are first come first served. Also, we learned that — for at least this first day of testing — the new strollers were not available until 9:45 AM (after the usual morning 9:00 AM park entry crowds went through the gates).
We’re not sure how long the test strollers will be around, but a Cast Member we spoke with mentioned they’d be around for at least a few weeks. Stay tuned to Disney Food Blog for more updates!

With these strollers, how are the cast members going to tell them apart from personal strollers that guests bring with them? They look similar to other strollers. I don’t have children, but when my brother was a child, we would rent a stroller a couple times. I can see that they look more comfortable and can be reclined. What is the weight /height limit on them? I can see both pluses and minuses for these new rentals.

I know a lot of people complain about the rental strollers and I agree that for very young children they are not the best. However, for the children that are too old for a stroller but too young for the marathon walking that is a Disney vacation they are great. We used them most trips from the time my son was 4 until he turned 8. We would rent a double so he had more room to stretch out and it didn’t make him feel like a ‘baby’. I hope that the new option will be in addition to, not in place of the current option as I plan on making visits with my great nieces and nephews that are in the ‘big kid’ age bracket and had planned on doing the same as we had with my son.

Oh wow, this is an upgrade from the plastic seats. However, this is not good news for the stroller rental companies that delivery to the hotels.
I’ve personally never used Disney’s hard strollers, always rented from 3rd party company. With the new option, I would be more inclined to use the Disney offered “test” stroller, so we are not carrying a stroller on and off the trolleys or struggling to figure out how to open and close the delivered one.

Has there been any news yet on if these newer strollers are staying or if they’re still testing them out?
And was this only at Animal Kingdom, or the other parks also?
Thanks!

Melissa, the testing phased out, and we haven’t seen the softer strollers expand.
