Jiko — The Cooking Place is, hands down, one of the most romantic and delicious restaurants on Disney World property. Jiko is a Signature Dining restaurant with vibrant spices, wood-burning ovens, and boutique South African wines, and the menu is built around African, Indian, and Mediterranean influences.
Sharing tastes of Africa with a special Jiko flourish, this restaurant doesn’t offer a great view or any characters, but it does offer truly beautiful food — and the Animal Kingdom Lodge savanna is right outside…

This is a special place, and we recommend it to anyone looking to be a little bit more adventurous with their taste buds and to experience something truly amazing!

The Atmosphere at Jiko — The Cooking Place
By the time you get downstairs to Jiko, the resort has already done its little spellwork. Inside the restaurant, the details keep going.
You get those soft sunset tones, the birds overhead, the columns, the glow, the sense that you have stepped slightly sideways out of regular Disney World.
There are thoughtful design details everywhere, including the hidden Mickey near the flatbread station and the African sunset inspiration in the back wall, and that is exactly the kind of thing that makes Jiko feel layered without shouting for attention.
The whole experience has that Animal Kingdom Lodge magic, where dinner feels less like an over-planned reservation and more like you’ve found a hidden pocket of Disney World.
The atmosphere feels grown-up without being stiff.

Nosh or Not
This Disney World restaurant is a must-visit if…
- You want chef-driven, spice-forward African-inspired cuisine with polished service—think wood-fired grills, seasonal seafood/game, and one of Disney’s strongest South African wine lists.
- You’re a wine nerd (or aspire to be): deep South African list, savvy pairings, and helpful sommeliers.
- You’re craving a low-key luxe date night/celebration in a warm, sunset-glow dining room away from park chaos.
Skip this restaurant if…
- You need fast, cheap, or character dining—this is leisurely, plated, and priced like a signature.
- Your crew skews super picky or wiggly—nuanced flavors + quieter vibe aren’t a match for everyone.
- You don’t want the AKL commute cutting into park time; Jiko is a destination meal.
Important Information
- Jiko’s special Wine Room occasionally hosts dinners where guests can interact with Jiko chefs.
- Jiko has a couple of tables lining a single-side booth. These can be short on elbow room and romance. Consider requesting a stand-alone table and avoid the bother of too-close neighbors.
- Jiko is designed to represent a nature scene, and many of the elements are considered “lucky” in African cultures. Watch the colors of the sunset change on the back wall throughout your dinner.
- Jiko has a signature dining dress code.
- Jiko offers Mobile Dine Check-In.
- Reservations are recommended, but depending on the day, they might have some last-minute availability. See the Mobile Dine Walk-up Waitlist.
Famous Dishes: Filet Mignon with macaroni and cheese, Short Rib Isitambu, Braai’d Wild Boar Tenderloin, the Bread Service, Diver Scallop with Pork Belly, Potjie Pot, Moroccan-spiced Lamb Shank, Zebratini
