Tucked back in the corner of Critter Country, The Hungry Bear Restaurant is often overlooked. This quiet counter service restaurant is rarely crowded, has plenty of shaded seating with a gorgeous view of the Rivers of America, AND the food here is great too! Another bonus? They’re currently serving up the most delicious item at the Disneyland Resort.
The Caramel Apple Funnel Cake is making its grand debut this year for Halloween Time — and I need it to go away soon because otherwise I will be way too tempted to eat one on each and every visit to Disneyland.
Made fresh to order, a Caramel Apple Funnel Cake will set you back $6.49, or a little less if you use your annual passholder discount. The sizing is enormous. Unless your sweet tooth is craving a huge splurge, it’s plenty to share with 3 or maybe even 4 people.
The actual funnel cake was not at all greasy. It was topped powdered sugar and caramel drizzle with a generous scoop of perfectly cubed granny smith apples.
I was expecting the apples to be like apple pie filling, but they were not at all “mushy” like typical store bought apple pie filling. They tasted fresh and had a bit of crispness to them. Not actually crunchy like taking a bite out of an apple, but definitely more dense than apple pie filling. It was also not overly sugary tasting.
It’s how I’d imagine taking a bite out of a freshly dipped warm gooey caramel apple would be. And then there’s the homemade whipped cream. Light and fluffy, it’s hand piped onto the top into a perfect not so hidden Mickey shape.
Kind of a bizarre combo, we also ordered the Mango Habanero Lime Iced Tea to accompany our funnel cake. The drink is mixture of lemonade and iced tea infused with a lime mango habanero flavoring. It comes garnished with maraschino cherries, a lemon and a glow cube to boot!
To our surprise, the drink was quite tasty. Sweet and not too spicy, it’s sort of an Arnold Palmer with a kick. If you’re feeling adventurous or enjoy sweet and spicy combos, go for it!
I say treat your taste buds. The Caramel Apple Funnel Cake is heaven in your mouth. This is by far my favorite Halloween Time treat!
Do you have a favorite Halloween Time treat at the Disneyland Resort? Have you tried the Caramel Apple Funnel Cake yet? What did you think?

Drool. That looks amazing, Heather! Do you think there is a chance that the funnel cake and spicy iced tea will still be there in early November? I have exactly 31 more sleeps till I am back at DLR! Thanks for the great posts. Michelle W
@Michelle W – Unfortunately, I think this ends with the end of Halloween Time on the 31st. Fingers crossed for you that they make it a permanent menu item. That would be fabulous! Have a great trip!!!
Thanks Heather! I guess I will just have to settle for Mickey shaped foods this time round! 😉
I love blogs about the Halloween treats, snacks and souvenirs, but it doesn’t look like they have much in the parks this year. This funnel cake looks like it could be an entire meal! I love Granny Smith apples; all it would need for me would be a little more caramel, please. This was a delicious report, Heather. Thanks.
I love how specific and descriptive this review was. Great job, Heather! I can really imagine what the caramel apple funnel cake tastes like. Hope it comes to FL.
@Michelle W – Those are good too!!!!
@Essie – Thanks! It could totally be an entire meal. The portion is huge!
@Anna – Thanks so much! I hope you get to try it some day, so yummy!
This sounds amazing though I am picky about my apple pie fillings (I always prefer fresh when I can make/get it) but i’d be willing to try it with a group. Would be good with some gibson girl vanilla ice cream on top too! Was it warm when you got it?
Love all the fall/Halloween posts Heather, keep em coming!!!
@Angelina – Glad you like the Halloween posts! There are still more to come! ; )
Oh Em Gee! Will you go to eat another one with me? yum!
@Wendy – I don’t know if I can handle another one! I’ve got to fit into an already tight Halloween costume! ; )
Had this over the weekend and it was very good. The funnel cake was freshly prepared and the toppings were great. We also got a brownie one and split the two between 6 people. We had no trouble finishing them off as a group!
@Melissa – Glad you liked it! I’ll have to check out the brownie one of these days!
