The world has certainly changed a lot in the last year, and the travel industry is a major example of this.
Airlines were one of the types of businesses that were highly affected by the global health crisis and resulting closures. Now, as the industry starts to return and a COVID-19 vaccine may be on the horizon, one airline is looking to the future for how best to keep passengers safe — and it might surprise you.
According to The Guardian, CEO of Australia-based Qantas Airlines Alan Joyce has said that once a COVID-19 vaccine is readily available, proof of vaccination will be required for passengers on the airline’s international flights.
Specifically, he noted, “We are looking at changing our terms and conditions to say for international travellers, that we will ask people to have a vaccination before they can get on the aircraft… Certainly for international visitors coming out, and people leaving the country. We think that’s a necessity.”
The same stipulation was not mentioned for those traveling within Australia, but Joyce said a decision will be made down the line based on the crisis situation.
Notably, he also said, “I think that’s going to be a common thing, talking to my colleagues in other airlines around the globe… What we’re looking at is how you can have the [proof of] vaccination in an electronic version of a passport that certifies what the vaccine is, if it’s acceptable the country you’re traveling to.”
Joyce has noted that some international flights may not return for a long time, particularly those to countries with high levels of the virus, like the United States and Europe. He says these flights may come back “towards the end of 2021.”
We’ll be keeping a close eye on how the vaccine affects air travel, and in turn, your Disney trips. Stay tuned.

It should be added, the Australian Federal Health Minister has stated that as well as a visa to enter Australia, international travellers will require proof of vaccination against Covid-19. If you do not have proof of vaccination, you will be required to complete 14 days mandatory hotel quarantine on arrival. Australia has required 14 day quarantine in hotels since March for all international arrivals. It will cost travellers $3,000 for the quarantine… and no… you do not get to choose your hotel. The army put straight on a bus at the airport and you are taken directly to the designated hotel. So unless you are coming to Australia for months… make sure to get vaccinated first. Otherwise you will be spending a large portion of your holidays in a hotel room.
