It’s a tale as old as time (and sorry, not sorry, if you just started singing that song). In this case, it’s a tale that will turn 30 years old soon, and there’s going to be a new special to celebrate it.
That’s right, the Beauty and the Beast: A 30th Anniversary Celebration is set to air LIVE on ABC on December 15th of this year, and it’s already got a star-studded line-up: Josh Groban as the Beast, H.E.R as Belle, Joshua Henry as Gaston, David Alan Grier as Cogsworth, and Rita Moreno as the Narrator. But just you wait, because even MORE huge stars are set to be a part of the production.
Variety is reporting that Martin Short is in talks to play Lumiere! But WAIT — because it looks like Shania Twain could be playing Mrs. Potts! Say what?!
Where can we submit an official request that Mrs. Potts break into a musical number of Man! I Feel Like a Woman? We’re pretty sure that’d fit into the story of Beauty and the Beast somewhere… .
The special will also feature never-before-seen musical performances. John M. Chu is executive producing. Mark your calendars because it will air live on ABC on December 15th and stream on Disney+ the next day.
Looking for something to keep you entertained until then? You can always watch the animated AND live-action Beauty and the Beast movies on Disney+ or check out everything that’s coming to the streaming service in October.
