Buying tickets to the movie theater could cost you MORE soon…but there also might be some new options for cheaper tickets, too.
AMC Theaters are introducing a new ticket system, which has different seats in the theater priced higher or lower depending on location. The system is set to roll out this week, and it might impact your next night out at the theater!
AMC Theaters announced their new Sightline program today, which they describe as “a value-based program that provides moviegoers with multiple seating options to meet their viewing preferences.” Under this program, there are three different categories of movie theater seats: Value, Standard, or Preferred.
The Value seats are “typically located in the front row and select wheelchair accessible seats,” and these will be the cheapest options available. AMC clarified that all seats offer a view of the movie screen, so even in the Value seats you’ll be able to still have a good viewing experience.
Preferred seats are “select seats in the middle of the auditorium,” and they’ll be the highest-priced options. Standard seats include “the remaining seats that are not a Preferred Sightline seat or a Value Sightline seat.” These will be priced between Value and Preferred.
AMC hasn’t released the pricing yet for these seats, so we don’t know exactly how much the prices will change from what they are now. It’s possible that Standard seats will be close to the current prices, with Value seats available at a discount and Preferred seats costing extra. We’ll keep an eye out for updates on the actual prices.
The new Sightline program will begin on Friday, February 10th, at a few AMC theaters in New York, Chicago, and Kansas City, and it’ll expand to all U.S. AMC theaters by the end of 2023 (Variety). The new prices will apply to all showtimes after 4PM, excluding Tuesdays (due to the Discount Tuesday deal).
AMC also noted that the extra cost associated with the Preferred seats will be waived for AMC Stubs A-List reservations, although AMC Stubs members who are not A-List will still have to pay extra for those seats. All AMC Stubs members will receive a discount on the Value seats.
If you’re planning to head to the movies soon, make sure you note this pricing change. You may be able to save some money with those Value seats, or you could splurge for an extra-good seat with the Preferred option.
