Things are heating up for Orlando’s theme parks, and we’re not just talking about summer. Universal Orlando just opened a NEW theme park, Epic Universe. Disney World has expansions planned for three of its four parks. Even LEGOLAND Florida is updating some of its hotel rooms.
Well, in an effort not to be left behind, The Orlando Business Journal reports that SeaWorld Orlando might also be getting a big expansion soon.
United Parks & Resorts Inc., the parent company of SeaWorld Orlando, has announced plans for two hotels next to its theme parks, with future developments on the way, including offerings beyond hotels. The company currently has about 400 acres of undeveloped land next to its Orlando parks, meaning it has the space to grow. So it’s looking for ways to “unlock the value of this very valuable real estate.”
Two hotel projects are already underway for part of that land. One involves a 504-room, 15-story hotel that would take up about 30 acres next to SeaWorld. This hotel would have direct access to the theme park, as well as a rooftop bar, pools, a conference center, and a ballroom. The second hotel is planned near Discovery Cove and would have six stories and 250 rooms. It would sit on a 50-acre site that’s currently a parking lot.
Of course, that still leaves plenty of acreage to explore other options. The company has also mentioned it could use the space for “housing, rides, and attractions.”
Of course, nothing beyond the hotels has been confirmed at this point, so we’ll have to see what SeaWorld decides to do with all that land. However, SeaWorld Orlando did just recently open a new ride, Expedition Odyssey.
