According to Yahoo News, a Melbourne man has died after going overboard on Disney Cruise Line’s Wonder ship.
The Victoria Police confirmed a report about the 73-year-old man, and a spokesperson has said, “It is understood the man died after he jumped from a cruise liner into waters in the Tasman Sea on Saturday, about 4:30 AM.”
The man’s name has not been released, and his body has not been discovered yet. According to CruiseMapper, the ship initiated a search operation, turned back, and navigated for about 5 hours in the area where the incident was reported. The crew on board used thermal-imaging equipment to scan the water, and the ship’s captain later confirmed that the individual could not be found.
The Disney Wonder is proceeding to New Zealand with an anticipated arrival delayed by one day.
Our thoughts go out to the man’s family during this time.
