Okay, let’s face it…We do things in Disney World that we would NEVER do in our regular daily lives back home.
For example, we’ll get up EXTRA early just to make it to rope drop in the parks. We’ll also throw a pair of mouse ears on our heads and walk around like that all day. We’ll even cheer, cry, and squeal when we see our favorite characters in the parks. But another thing we’ll do…and I’m calling GUILTY here…is that we’ll wait in lines for our favorite rides and characters FOR HOURS without a problem.
Think about it. Right now, one of the biggest travel complaints is that people are waiting in line for HOURS just to go through TSA security at airports. And if we can avoid waiting in line, we’ll do all it takes not to wait (me? I have TSA PreCheck because I’m so impatient). But the minute I get to Disney World, all bets are off. We’ll get in line for Rise of the Resistance and stay there for three hours…and you know what? It’s FINE. We’re totally fine with it.
Oh, it’s just a 2-hour wait for Mickey Mouse? Sure? We’ll just stand here and make the most of it. But two hours at the DMV? Oh no! That’s OUTRAGEOUS, and it makes our blood boil. Granted, the end result is a lot different for those two things. One is fun…and the other…well, isn’t.
We’ll even do this for entertainment. We’ll stake out our spots for Happily Ever After AT least an hour before the performance, but we wouldn’t do the same for some of the things we have to deal with back home. That’s just how it is.
Our mindsets completely change in Disney World, but a lot of it has to do with the fact that lines are — shall we say? — kinda’ fun when you’re in the parks? There are all these wonderful details in the queues. There are Cast Members doing their best to make sure you’re having a good time. There’s so much going on that the wait seems short.
So maybe the TSA and DMV need to rethink their queues…that’s all I’m saying.
But it’s still interesting what we’re willing to do in Disney World, especially when it comes to comparing it to the same things we’re willing to do back home. But then again, even long lines are magical in Disney World. And for those who hate the long lines, there’s always Lightning Lane Multi Pass.
