According to News 6, a cold front is passing through Central Florida on April 20th, bringing cooler, drier, and windier conditions throughout most of the week. As a result, there will be an increase in fire danger.
We can expect breezy to windy north- to northeast winds throughout the day, with sustained speeds of 15 to 20 mph and gusts of 25 to 30 mph.
The skies will be mostly cloudy, with temperatures in the upper 70s to near 80 degrees, and overnight lows can fall into the upper 50s and 60s. If you’re heading to the beach, the water conditions could be dangerous. Strong onshore winds can create a rough surf and a high risk of rip currents. Boating conditions will also be hazardous with seas between 4 and 7 feet.
Fire danger will be a growing concern at the start of the week. A Red Flag Warning is in effect on Monday for Marion County, with a Fire Weather Watch in place for Tuesday across different areas. This is because of the strong, gusty winds, low relative humidity, and very dry fuels, which allow fires to start and spread easily.
In the middle of the week, high pressure builds, bringing drier air and more stable conditions. On Tuesday, it will stay breezy with northeast winds gradually easing later in the week. Rain chances remain very low, though a few brief onshore-moving showers might happen on Wednesday or Thursday.
Temperatures will return to seasonal norms on Thursday, with highs in the upper 70s along the coast and in the low 80s inland. By Friday into the weekend, a warming trend returns, with highs climbing into the mid- to upper 80s and even approaching 90 degrees in some inland neighborhoods.
If you’re heading to Disney World or Central Florida this week, make sure you keep an eye on the weather and be prepared to change your plans. Some outdoor rides can close due to weather, so it’s good to have backup plans along with extra layers and rain gear.
