If you’ve ever had a long layover with kids at the Orlando International Airport, then what the airport just opened is your new favorite thing.
Three family zones throughout the airport will open this year, and the first zone just opened last week!
The Orlando International Airport just opened its Flybrary, a reading nook for children in Terminal C. The Flybrary offers a dedicated space for storytime and fun, designed to enhance the comfort and passenger experience at the busy travel hub. It’s a unique environment for traveling children and families to engage with reading and local Orlando culture while waiting for their flights.
Design features include tree-shaped bookshelves, tree stump-shaped stools, and carpet with water and plant patterns that reference Central Florida’s landscape. The main feature of the Flybrary is a restored vintage Lake Eola swan boat. The boat is named after the iconic Billy the Swan, one of the first swans imported to Orlando at Lake Eola. Billy the Swan was famous for his aggressive, territorial behavior towards people, cars, and other swans, yet he became an early icon of Lake Eola Park and Orlando’s natural beauty.
“As young readers travel through our airport, the Flybrary invites them to take flight with new adventures,” said Lance Lyttle, CEO of the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority. “Orlando International Airport has made Community a foundational pillar, and we believe a good community partner honors stakeholders by providing new and exciting spaces to explore and learn.”
We’re so excited to check out the Flybrary on our next flight out of MCO. Stay tuned to Disney Food Blog for more Disney World travel news!
