Toy Story may be the talk of cinemas this year, but toys are actually coming to life at a theme park in Arizona!
While both Disney and Universal dominate the theme park discussion from a national standpoint, the Mattel brand has decided to throw its hat in the ring and join the theme park industry. The toy and game company is set to open Mattel Adventure Park in Arizona! Featuring attractions based on beloved properties like Barbie and Hot Wheels, this unique theme park will be “the only place where you can get behind the wheel of a lightning-fast Hot Wheels go-kart, join Thomas & Friends on a treasure hunt journey and enjoy a signature pink beverage on the third-story rooftop of The Barbie Beach House.” Let’s take at everything that’s been announced so far!
Mattel Adventure Park has gone through quite the journey. Set to open in Glendale, Arizona — a suburb in the metropolitan area of Phoenix — this park is the first of TWO theme parks that are being built in the United States (the second being located in Bonner Springs, Kansas — which is set to open by 2031). This Arizona-based park will be the first Mattel-based park and Arizona’s first fully themed indoor/outdoor amusement park.
It’s been rough sledding so far for Mattel Adventure Park. It was first announced back in 2021, and developers were hoping to open it in 2022. Since then, it’s been officially delayed twice. This billion-dollar park that will occupy 60 acres is slated to open now in 2026, but that’s going to be a tough squeeze.
As of this writing, Mattel Adventure Park does not have an opening date.
However, construction is ongoing, and we do know about five distinct areas as well as some rides that will be featured in the park!
Thomas & Friends
Thomas the Tank Engine will grace the park with several themed offerings!

Filled with nostalgia that also appeals to the kids of today, this area promises to be extra family-friendly.
Hot Wheels
The thrill levels turn up quite a bit with these new Hot Wheels rides! The Hot Wheels attractions have had the most hype so far — and for good reason! The attractions and bar listed on Mattel’s website are as follows:
- Hot Wheels Unleashed 4D Ride
- Hot Wheels Legends Bar
- Hot Wheels Party Pit Stop
- Hot Wheels Go-Karting: Raceway
- Hot Wheels Go-Karting: Skyway
- Hot Wheels Speed Challenge
- Hot Wheels Bone Shaker: The Ultimate Ride
- Hot Wheels Twin Mill Racer
Hot Wheels Bone Shaker: The Ultimate Ride will be a family coaster themed to the iconic Hot Wheels Bone Shaker toy. It’ll be the first-ever family coaster to feature the skull design, will climb 84 feet in the air, and dive into a double helix. This isn’t billed as a scary coaster, but rather a good entry point for kids and adults looking to build some courage.

The Twin Mill Racer will take riders on a 65-second thrill ride over a 2,503-foot track, and will go from 0 to 60 mph in under three seconds before blasting riders outside of an air-conditioned loading zone.

This is THE big coaster at the park. It will feature two vertical loops (one of which tops out at 116 feet) and a series of corkscrew and hairpin turns.
Barbie
Can you really have a Mattel park without Barbie? The park has teased its very own Barbie Beach House with fun experiences!
The Barbie Beach House includes the following:
- Barbie Dream Closet Experience
- Barbie Flying Theatre
- The Barbie Rooftop
The Barbie Beach House will be a dream destination for Barbie fans of all ages! It’ll feature the Barbie Dream Closet Experience — an interactive retail experience where fans can build a customized Barbie set using hologram technology that brings Barbie to life. It will also include a unique Barbie-themed flying theater and the Barbie Rooftop bar and restaurant.
Masters of the Universe
He-Man has had a big year, and he’s not done yet! Masters of the Universe will include one family activity in the area.

He-Man vs. Skeletor Laser Tag will let participants play laser tag under the theming of Masters of the Universe, and we can’t wait to see it in action!
Mattel Games
Mattel is also turning to its classic toys and games for five Mattel-themed offerings.
These offerings are as follows:
- UNO! Wild Climb
- Mattel Games Mini Golf
- Kerplunk Drop Tower
- Adventure Pizza Kitchen
- Mattel Games Way
We’re itching to see this park in action! In the meantime, keep it posted right here at DFB for all the latest Mattel Adventure Park updates!
