NEWS: A Medieval Times Movie Is Officially In The Works

Hollywood will really make a movie out of anything these days. We’ve seen movies about Flamin’ Hot Cheetos, a movie about Tetris, a film about Eurovision, and other movies that we never thought would actually get made.

Well, another such movie is in the works, according to Deadline. Medieval Times…yes, the dinner show where you can watch jousting…is getting a movie.

Paramount has plans to create a live-action family comedy movie based on Medieval Times, a dinner theater company known for its live entertainment experience where guests sit in specific sections in a small arena, with each section supporting a certain kingdom. Then there’s mounted combat, jousting, stunt riding, and sword fighting, all while eating medieval-themed food. And now, that’s going to be a movie! There are several locations of this dinner theater throughout North America, including Orlando.

So that might sound a little odd, but the premise of the movie, which IS a comedy, makes it sound like it could be a lot of fun. The movie follows an employee struggling at the Orlando Medieval Times who accidentally brings a 9th-century knight and an evil necromancer to our world. He has to team up with the knight to save the castle…as well as the world. Obviously, shenanigans ensue throughout.

The film’s pitch was sold to Paramount, with Eric Appel (Weird: The Al Yankovic Story, The Breadwinner) directing and a script written by Blaise Hemingway (Clifford the Big Red Dog, Totems). John Davis and Chris Bender are set to produce, with John Fox, Jeremy Stein, and Jake Wagner executive producing with Perico Montaner, President and CEO of Medieval Times. Believe it or not, this isn’t the first time Hollywood has tried to make a film based on the entertainment experience: in 2013, Bender tried — and failed — to get a movie off the ground. Looks like it’s a little closer to happening this time.

So why not? This could be a fun comedy film, and if done right, we’re curious as to how it will all work out! We’ll keep an eye out for more movie news, so stay tuned to DFB for more.
