Located on the island of Eleuthera in The Bahamas, the NEW Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point will open to Disney Cruise Line passengers on select sailings in the summer of 2024!
In September 2022, Disney Parks Blog shared the following words about Lighthouse Point: “Disney is working closely with Bahamian artists and advisors to create a destination that represents the natural beauty and rich culture of the Bahamas, brought to life through Disney storytelling and the unparalleled service of local cast and crew. It will be a vibrant beach retreat infused with the color and energy of Bahamian artistry.”
Lookout Cay will be the second Disney Cruise Line destination in The Bahamas, joining the existing Castaway Cay.
Lookout Cay Design
According to Disney, when guests arrive at Lookout Cay, they’ll find “distinctive, sweeping architecture in bright, saturated hues” inspired by nature.
There are “curvilinear buildings” that will, at first glance, look like shells along the shore. But, as you look closer, you’ll find “artistic expressions of the native flora and fauna of The Bahamas and the pageantry and history of Junkanoo parades.” Visitors will also find references to Bahamian folklore characters.
Learning Your Way Around Lookout Cay
Mabrika Cove is the arrival point of Lookout Cay.
According to Disney, “‘Mabrika’ means ‘welcome’ in Taino, the language of the Lucayans, who are considered the indigenous people of The Bahamas.”
On the island, families will find all kinds of unique activities. There will be “pristine beaches,” and activities that will lead them to discover the “magic of Bahamian storytelling alongside favorite Disney characters.”
Guests will find a family beach on the east side of the island, with recreation, and other amenities.
The nearby market-style dining spot will be True-True Too BBQ, a seashell-inspired restaurant with shaded pavilion seating!
A Bahamian art and culture pavilion — The Goombay Cultural Center — is where you’ll find “special programs and local artists” providing fun learning opportunities to passengers! The Goombay Cultural Center is meant to “embody the essence of ‘Junkanoo,’ a Bahamian festival filled with joyous music and vibrant parades that will come to life in many ways across Disney Lookout Cay.”
Goombay is a music style in the Bahamas, and it involves singing, dancing, and drums. The colorful pavilion has an archway that was inspired by Junkanoo. Inside, guests can learn more about the traditions of The Bahamas.
Additionally, Triton’s Trumpet Stage is a center for family entertainment. The name of the gazebo is inspired by both the king from The Little Mermaid and one of the natural wonders found on Bahamian beaches: “a large, spiraled seashell commonly called ‘Triton’s Trumpet.’”
There will also be an interactive family water play area with slides, water drums, and more. Toddlers will even have their own dedicated space.
Like Castaway Cay, Lookout Cay will have its own adult-exclusive beach (north of the family area) by the name of Serenity Bay. It will include a dedicated dining area and six private cabanas available to reserve, and will be exclusive to guests 18 years of age and older.
Kids ages 3 through 12 will have their own themed Kids’ Club on the island where they’ll be able to play under the supervision of Disney Cruise Line counselors. There will be a splash pad area inspired by The Little Mermaid and a dedicated dining area.
Separate from the main family area, there will also be a peaceful beach with 20 premium family cabanas available to rent (four of which are double cabanas for larger groups). Those double cabanas will also offer massage services for a little extra pampering!
The Treasure of Eleuthera gift shop will feature “locally made gifts and artisan crafts.” The shop is going to “spotlight Bahamian artists through an array of unique items.”
Other activities on the island will include:
- a covered gaming pavilion;
- a volleyball court;
- a gaga ball pit;
- watercraft and bike rentals;
- nature trails that you can hike or bike;
- and a collection of NEW Port Adventures (island excursions)
Plus, Disney will have complimentary essentials like towels, chairs, and umbrellas, and a tram service to get you anywhere you’d like to visit on the island.
In fact, Disney shared a look at one of the tram stops in March 2024. This space will soon be decked out in colorful decor inspired by the warmth of Bahamian art and culture.
Here, you’ll find spots for hair braiding, merchandise, and more.

Disney Characters on Lookout Cay
Among the Disney pals spending the day with you on Lookout Cay will be Mickey and Minnie, of course! And they will debut NEW looks on Lookout Cay!
These new outfits are specially designed by a Bahamian fashion designer named Theodore Elyett. Disney revealed that the outfits will be inspired by the beauty of Theodore Elyett’s homeland. The designer has created looks for all kinds of high-profile clients, like Miss Universe contestants, celebrities, brides, and even government officials.
Lookout Cay Merchandise
Disney has shared a first look at some of the Bahamian-inspired merchandise that will be debuting when the island officially opens this summer! This spirit jersey, for instance, is a part of the Junkanoo-Inspired Collection.
This collection is inspired by the sights and sounds of Junkanoo, which is a Bahamian tradition with lots of colorful parades. You’ll also find these bright hues on a Loungefly backpack and ear headband.
You can bring home a plush Mickey and Minnie Mouse in their new looks.
Theodore Elyett, an acclaimed Bahamian fashion designer, created these fabulous EARS!
He has developed a full clothing line, including both men’s and women’s apparel that will also be available on the island.
Lookout Cay Sustainability
In terms of electricity, at least 90% of the location’s electricity needs will actually be met by an “onsite solar array.” Plus, Disney has made sustainability a focus of its design by designing a pier that avoids the need for dredging, as well as elevated walkways that limit the impact on the island’s landscape.
Disney Parks Blog has shared the following: “Disney has committed to develop less than 20 percent of the property, supply 90 percent of the site’s power from solar energy, employ sustainable building practices, and donate more than 190 acres of privately owned land to the government. Environmental management programs have already been established and will continue throughout construction and into operation.”
