The Southern California favorite Porto’s Bakery and Cafe is making its way to Disneyland Resort’s Downtown Disney District!
The spot — as announced by Disney Parks, Experiences and Products Chairman Josh D’Amaro during the 2022 D23 Expo — will bring its signature sweet pastries and savory Cuban food to Downtown Disney. Porto’s will be part of the expansion of the Downtown Disney District, joining other recently announced eateries such as Din Tai Fung and Paseo and Centrico.
Porto’s Bakery is a Southern California favorite. According to the restaurant’s website, it all came about due to Rosa Porto’s love of sharing cakes and pastries with family and friends. Rosa was born in Cuba and grew up surrounded by her mother’s baking and recipes that had been passed down through her family (who was originally from the Galicia region of Spain).
Rosa and her husband petitioned to leave Cuba and she found herself out of a job, so she started selling cakes to friends and family. Eventually, Rosa and her family moved to California (with just the clothes on their backs). Rosa continued making baked goods for her friends and family, and later, they opened their first store. The rest, as they say, is history.
Rosa passed away in 2019, but her recipes continue to be used along with her motto “quality is the number one ingredient in everything we do.” They’re known for their signature pastries and savory Cuban food.
Porto’s Bakery and Cafe will be located at the former spot of La Brea’s Bakery, near the Esplanade.
