On my last trip to Walt Disney World, I stole a few precious moments on my own at the Magic Kingdom.
Now, when most people find themselves solo at the MK, they might hit up a ride they haven’t been on in a while or maybe do some shopping at the Emporium. Me? I eat. This time, it was seasonal treats that I’d never tried before: Pumpkin Fudge and a Holiday Cupcake!
Holiday Cupcake Taste Test
The Main Street Bakery had a couple of holiday cupcakes to choose from, but I couldn’t resist this wreath-themed one! Why? No idea. Probably because I just KNEW it would turn my teeth green…which it did.
I was excited to try this one! Unfortunately, while the taste was good (moist cake, good frosting) the frosting to cake ratio was extremely small. You guys know me — my definition of a good cupcake is 90% frosting, 10% cake — so this just didn’t make the cut. (Though I know that lots of you are “cake people” and will be pleased to see a more realistic ratio here!) At least it made my teeth sickeningly green for a while, which is always fun (and a good way to save money on that “turn-your-kid-into-a-pirate” thing)!
Pumpkin Fudge
Ever since I first heard about pumpkin fudge I knew I had to try it! I got this piece at the new (to me!) candy counter that’s opened up in Frontierland.
Now, this is a seasonal fudge and is only available during the holidays, so grab it if you see it! It’s delicious! I wasn’t sure I’d like it as I’m not a big fan of pumpkin pie, but it was probably the smoothest, creamiest fudge I’ve tried in Disney World. On top of the texture, the taste was outstanding. Sweet and spicy, with an actual depth to it that you don’t usually find in standard chocolate or vanilla fudge. Also, something I really liked about it is that they didn’t have to “dress it up” with sprinkles, cookies, marshmallows, caramel swirls, or anything else to make it simply delicious. It was perfect as-is.
So — what are YOU making this holiday season? If anyone has a good pumpkin fudge recipe, let me know! 🙂

If you are a fan of Trails End’s chili (like we are), you will be pleased to hear that we have a suspicion that the side of chili at Pecos Bills was the same. Too bad we didn’t have any of the yummy corn bread…but last minute improv had us using the croutons from the fixins bar. Is that candy counter in Frontierland the one in the general store? I discovered that a few years ago and call it the candy store.. of course, when I tell people to find me in the candy store, they have no idea what I’m talking about… but delicious fudge!
hehe. Green teeth for that Grinch look. I’m like you, it has to have frosting!!! 🙂
I see a recipe here for the pumpkin fudge. It instructs you to add evaporated milk to the saucepan. However, evaporated milk is not in the ingredient list! So, how much am I to use ?! Thanks!
Randy, it’s hard for me to say without seeing the recipe. But I did find a recipe for Marceline’s Pumpkin Fudge that calls for 2/3 cup evaporated milk. If you’ve got a different recipe, link it for me, and I’ll try to figure it out!
