To kick off Mardi Gras weekend, I thought it’d be fun to highlight one of the little-known treats at Ralph Brennan’s Jazz Kitchen Express in Disneyland’s Downtown Disney District!
This is a counter-service location serving some great New Orleans specialties, including hand-made beignets (AWESOME — stay tuned for a review of those babies), po-boys, catfish, gumbo, jambalaya, Mint Juleps, and more! And how many times have I just walked right by this place on my way to Disneyland??
Anyway, one of the newer treats debuted at the Jazz Kitchen Express are the Sno-Balls! A lot like shave ice or Kaki-Gori, these are icy treats doused in sweet, sour, and specialty syrups!
They even have condensed milk, chocolate, and coffee flavored options. You can easily compare these to the Kaki-Gori found in Epcot’s Japan in Disney World!
Predictable me chose sour lemon and cherry for my Sno-Ball! It was cool and refreshing — perfect for the August evening. And the serving size was quite large for $2.99. I was impressed!! And the flavors were perfect. While the lemon was not-too-sour, it provided just enough pucker power to complement the sweet cherry.
As I mentioned, stay tuned next week for more New Orleans flair from Ralph Brennan’s Jazz Kitchen!! I can’t wait to share those warm, powdery beignets with you!! 🙂
Have you grabbed a snack at Ralph Brennan’s Jazz Kitchen Express? Let us know what flavor Sno-Ball you would try!

Did anyone else notice the misspelling of “Specialty” on the sign? Yikes! Aside from that, I would love to try about 8 of these flavors. I need to get out to Disneyland, for the sake of my children of course. I can’t deprive them of such a learning experience!

Kathy — I did notice! 😉 And yes — time to bring the kids to Disneyland!! They’ll love it!

Nice to see some additional authenticity in New Orleans Square. Condensed milk is pretty popular as a snowball topping.
Snowballs with soft serve ice cream on top or inside are also popular.

Scott — Agreed!!

I’ll totally have to try one of the sugar free flavors whenever I get out to Disneyland! As a recently diagnosed diabetic, I’m happy to see that I don’t have to give up everything to keep my blood sugar level at decent level.

Yum! Here in actual New Orleans–sno balls are a summer main stay! I’m glad to see Ralph has brought them to Disneyland! (However, you cannot get a snow ball at any of Ralph’s restaurants here . . . )
