Let’s give a warm welcome to guest author Wendy Hofmann! She brings us a review of two new cupcakes found at the Contempo Cafe at Disney World’s Contemporary Resort.
Today, we stopped by Contempo Cafe on our way to Chef Mickey’s to see what cupcakes were available.
They had the Red Velvet (which I’ve seen before), and two others I hadn’t seen — the Pineapple Rum Cream Cheese and the Birthday Cake Cupcake. I had to purchase the Birthday Cake Cupcake, because I love sprinkles!
Birthday Cake Cupcake
The Birthday Cake Cupcake was vanilla cake with sprinkles baked in the batter, filled with buttercream, and then topped with pink frosting, rainbow sprinkles, and a pink Minnie Mouse cupcake pick. According to the cast members, the cupcake was also available in blue.
It was so good! My husband insisted he ‘didn’t want any cupcake’, but once I got that beauty back to the room and sliced open, he ate half of it when I had my back turned!
Pineapple Rum Cream Cheese Cupcake
Here’s a quick peek at the Pineapple Rum Cream Cheese cupcake!
UPDATE: Reader Michelle P. left a comment below with the following review:
I had the pineapple rum cupcake last week! It was very good, but not what I was expecting. The cake was a white cake and the pineapple flavor all came from the filling – but the best part was the rum-flavored buttercream! OH MY!!!
Sounds amazing, eh!?
Whenever a reader sends us a New Cupcake Alert, we’re excited to see the creations! Don’t forget to check out our Cupcake Gallery to find your next treat at Walt Disney World!

I have never actually gotten a Disney Cupcake, despite to 200+ visits to the World. I may just have to drive over this week to get one of those pineapple rum cream cheese monstrosities though!

That birthday cupcake is the cutest thing I’ve ever seen! Funfetti made even better!

Since my hubby and I are heading there this weekend to celebrate our birthdays, we may have to track down that cupcake!

I’m sorry I didn’t think to get pictures. I did like the fact that they cut a cone-shaped section out of the cupcake, put the filling in, then turned the cone upside down and used that as the base for the icing. As wonderful as it was – two inches square of the icing would have sent me into shock for the rest of the day (and I would have tried to eat it anyway because it was just that good!).

The B-day looks very cute, but my favorite right now is the Cappuccino from DHS’s Pizza Planet – pure Heaven! I don’t eat the pizza there, but the cupcake alone is more than worth the visit. However, I have a lot more to try before I can pick an ‘official’ favorite! 🙂

Thanks, AJ! Seeing the pictures made me miss these cupcakes so much, that I made a ‘birthday cake cupcake’ inspired cake with my daughter this weekend. Yellow cake mix, rainbow sprinkles, and grocery store white buttercream frosting. So delicious!

Very disappointed. The red velvet cupcake was so dry. Tasted like it had been sitting around for days. Will not eat anything from there again. Don’t bother. Overpriced and not good
