I’m 73 now and rent an ECV to tour the parks. I’ve been to WDW solo several times and love going that way. The freedom to do what you want, eat when and what you want, keep your own hours, etc, etc, is just great.

I can understand the meetings and pricing, but isn’t going to Disney with friends and/or family part of what makes the experience magical? Sure, you would get to do everything you want, but it probably won’t be the same by yourself than it would with other people.
I did a solo trip in September and it was the best time I’ve had in a long time. I really wanted to go to Disney and I knew I would never get my friends to agree to go, so I just did it. I had hotel rooms all to myself, I could eat where i wanted and when, (reservations were only necessary sometimes), rode all the rides I wanted, and napped when I wanted. My plans could change in 10 minutes and there was no one else to complain. If I didn’t want to wait 45 minutes for Frozen, I didn’t have to. It was wonderful. Honestly, I think everyone should do a solo trip somewhere in their life. It’s really a different experience and it’s absolutely worth it.
I took a solo trip in December and its maybe the best vacation I have ever been on. The last time i was there was in 2006, and I went with a group of 5. Its obviously a different experience going with other people and having company in the downtime, but its also a lot of compromising. Not everyone was happy with restaurant choices and the days itineraries as we went. I personally hate thrill rides, so I had to wait around for everyone else when they did the big coasters. We also sped from ride to ride without taking in the ambiance of the parks. Going myself, I got to do all the rides I wanted, and really got to notice all the little details I could. I went at my own pace, had a good mix of rides/food stops/shopping, and just enjoyed my scenery each day.
I’m taking my first partially-solo trip this May, and I can’t wait! I’ll only be there for two days before my other guests arrive, but I am going full-on selfish for those days! I can’t wait to go to the restaurants no one ever wants to go to with me, walk around EPCOT and linger in the world showcase shops that I’m always rushed through, and explore the other parks and attractions from a totally different perspective!
