As many of you may know, Epcot is undergoing a pretty HUGE transformation, and as part of that transformation, a lot of familiar locations will be getting an overhaul. And beginning September 8, the popular Character Spot will close temporarily.
Character Spot is actually home to two character meet-and-greet areas, which are located across from one another in Epcot. At one spot, guests can meet Baymax, Joy, and Sadness. At the other, guests can meet Mickey, Minnie, and Goofy.
Thankfully the characters aren’t going away; they’ll still be meeting… just in different locations.
Character Meet and Greet Locations After September 8
You’ll find Minnie Mouse at the World Showcase Gazebo where Daisy typically meets her fans, so the lovely Daisy Duck is heading to the American Adventure Pavilion.
Mickey and Goofy are set to move to Innoventions West for a bit before Mickey moves to a location in the Imagination! pavilion, and Goofy “venture[s] out into the park — and soon will find a new home.”
Joy is set to make new memories elsewhere, but Disney hasn’t released information about a new location for Sadness or Baymax.
In even MORE exciting news… Disney has announced that Pooh Bear will return to Christopher Robin’s bedroom in the United Kingdom Pavilion in September! The inner child in me is CANNOT HANDLE this wonderful news.
We’re SO thankful we’ll still get to meet all of our favorite characters (including Pooh!) during Character Spot’s temporary closure!

What do you think about these MAJOR meet-and-greet changes coming to Epcot? Let us know in the comments below!
OMG Please tell me Baymax will be somewhere he is 1 of 2 of the only Characters my son absolutely wants to meet ( Baymax and Stitch) if Baymax isn’t at Epcot hi s heart will be broken. He plan to wear his Baymax T-shirt for the occasion! Eeeeeek!
Stephanie, we’ll keep our ears open for info about where Baymax might go…
Baymax is a fave in our home. I hope that he doesn’t go away. My 15 year old son lit up like a little kid this last November at the Baymax meet and greet. Why does it seem like boy characters are always put on a backburner?
How do we find out the TIMES Minnie and Mickey will be in their new spots? How temporary is this closure???
Anne, no specifics on this yet, but we’ll update as we find out!
You mean you can’t mean them all in one location? That stinks. I don’t pay all that money to go to several locations and wait hours in line to see characters. Sad that Disney is doing that. We go to the character spot everytime we come because we get to see four characters all in one spot.
Linda, it’s definitely going to be a different character experience for a bit. Hopefully they’ll reunite quickly!
Do you know what this means about getting a FastPass for Character Spot? We go September 29 and have to book fast passes next week!
Kellen, so far we have not heard if there is a different set-up for the character meet Fastpass. I’ll look into it.
This makes me so sad! As the Mama to a “slightly” ? impatient toddler boy, I loved that we could meet all his faves with one FastPass, in a matter of a few minutes. Between naps and bedtime we only have a few hours in the park each day, so having to stand in multiple lines & not having the FastPass option will eat into that a lot!
Karen, I’m right there with you. We’re going to follow up on this when the change takes place and will update accordingly.
Has any additional information come out regarding where guests can see Joy and Sadness during this transitional time??
Becca, as of our last visit, they were still meeting in the same place they’ve been.
Confirmation on Baymax PLEASE!!
My grandchildren are Korean and Baymax was the first Disney character they fell in love with. He was top of the list to go see!
Peggy, unfortunately, he’s not listed in the Times Guide. If we see him, I’ll update!
aww i wanted to see baymax so badly:( i cried because he was so cute in the videos haha. bummed i can’t see him;-;
