We’ve been having a blast sampling all of the new holiday menu items at Disneyland as this Christmas season officially kicks off!
So far we’ve feasted on the new festive offerings at Rancho del Zocalo and the new Burnt Ends Grilled Cheese Sandwich at River Belle Terrace to name just a few! Now we’re heading over to the French Market Restaurant in New Orleans Square to try their new holiday Smothered Beef!
The words “smothered” and “beef” are like sweet music to our ears! Cue the angel choir, folks! We’re goin’ in!
The entree features a generous portion of braised beef, served with mashed potatoes, corn on the cob with Cajun spices, caramelized onions, and a hefty pour of rich n’ beefy roasted garlic jus!
Although our plate closely resembled the sign, we didn’t see any mushrooms in the sauce which were clear in the photo. Our corn also looked a little shriveled, and the jus had become slightly gelatinous. The chorus of angels singing was growing softer by the second, but we’re holding out hope that looks aside, the Smothered Beef will still deliver on taste!
Luckily, the beef itself was so soft and tender that you only needed a fork to take it apart. Despite the appearance of the jus sauce, it tasted pretty good with the tasty beef, which was VERY filling and a HUGE portion!
The mashed potatoes were delicious and while the corn cob wasn’t particularly fresh (it tasted like it had been held for sometime after it was cooked) we enjoyed it as a side with the Smothered Beef. Had it been the star of the show, it would’ve been a letdown, but it was only playing a supportive role, so no biggie.
Head over to French Market Restaurant to try the Smothered Beef for yourself and see what you think. The cost is $16.49 and while it’s flavorful enough and a HUGE serving of food, we’ll likely scoot over next door to Royal Street Veranda and order a few rounds of Blue Lump Crab Fritters, next time instead!
