We’ve got BIG news for Disney World resort guests today!
For the past few months, we’ve been getting our walking shoes ready as we check in on progress on the new WALKWAY between Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa and Magic Kingdom — and now, it’s complete and OPEN!
When we arrived at Magic Kingdom this morning, we noticed that the sign for the “Walkway to Grand Floridian Resort & Spa” pointed towards an OPEN path for the first time!
OMG! As we set off, we noticed that those coming FROM Grand Floridian would go through security at the boat docks along with those who are docking from Disney’s Wilderness Lodge Resort and Disney’s Fort Wilderness Campground.
Now, Grand Floridian and Magic Kingdom are basically on opposite sides of Seven Seas Lagoon, so this pathway is on the long side. We talked to one Cast Member who said it’s about a mile from the Grand Floridian building to bag check.Â
Our reporter wasn’t wearing tech to track their steps (Consider it on our to-do list!), but we didn’t feel like we were walking for that long. The walk from Magic Kingdom to Grand Floridian took about 15 to 20 minutes altogether.Â
Plus as you’re walking you get some pretty nice views! You can check out all of Seven Seas Lagoon and the other waterfront resorts.
The monorail cruises by overhead too. Want a glimpse of our stroll in real-time? Check out the video from our walk!

From what we can tell, it looks like the bridge and walkway have ample lighting to guide guests at night. There are lamp posts along the length of the pathway and the bridge has built-in lighting in the gates.
The gate at the main bridge locks (closing the walkway) around an hour to an hour and a half after Magic Kingdom closes so it is an option all day for your trip to and from the park.
Wow! We’re pretty darn pumped that this walkway is finally open! As always, stay tuned to DFB for the latest updates and let us know what you think of this new walking path.

Is there no more Water Pageant for the 7 Seas Lagoon and Bay Lakes resort guests to enjoy? The moving water display was always moored at the inlet across from the Grand Floridian…

Can you walk from TTC to MK now?
Linda Humphreys says
So what’s going to happen to water parade on bay lake. It doesn’t look like that bridge opens
Scott+D says
Hey there! Thanks for the update.
Small correction—neither the MK or the GF are on Bay Lake—they are both on the seven seas lagoon.
Chrystie says
Do they have the fence like stuff around the water to keep the alligators away? I’m really afraid of them and don’t want to see one walking on the path.
DFB Sarah says
Chrystie, it looks to me that they have a combination of fencing and large stone barriers.
DFB Sarah says
Thanks, Scott+D.
DFB Sarah says
Linda, this is expected to be a swing arm bridge that will allow the Water Pageant to pass through as needed.
DFB Sarah says
Ken, the bridge is expected to operate on a swing arm to allow the Pageant to pass through.
