runDisney has certainly had to make some adjustments in response to the global health crisis.
Last year, Disney made the decision to cancel the 2020 Star Wars Rival Run weekend in March. Events continued to be canceled or converted to virtual events through into the next year. Now, the 2021 Star Wars Rival Run Weekend will be held virtually — and the event won’t return in 2022.
runDisney announced today that the 2021 Star Wars Rival Run Weekend will be converted to a virtual event. And, the event will be reimagined in 2022 with a new theme in mind. It’s a bummer we won’t run this Star Wars weekend in person again, but we’re excited to see what a new theme might be!
Those who registered through runDisney.com will have the option of receiving a full refund for the race. Those registered with a U.S. mailing address also have the option of converting their registration to the new virtual event.
Those who opt to receive a refund will see it returned to their original form of payment for race registrations, commemorative merchandise, and processing fees. If a guest no longer has their original form of payment, they may contact runDisney by December 18th. Refunds will be processed within six to eight weeks.
Those registered for the Half Marathon, 10K, 5K, and Challenge will receive a Digital Disney Gift Card within six to eight weeks. IF you do not receive your gift card or refund in that time frame, contact runDisney.
Donations made to Make-A-Wish Central and Northern Florida will not be refunded and will be delivered to that organization. In addition, those who purchased a year of Club runDisney membership have received a second year at no charge.
Those with a valid U.S. shipping address will have an option to participate in the virtual race. People who receive a refund can still register for the virtual event if they do so on runDisney.com by December 15th at 10AM ET. Registered participants will receive an email with instructions on how to make their registration selection before December 18, 2020. Participants will receive the following based on their registration:
- Race distance medal(s)
- Option of event tech shirt(s)
- Digital Bib and finisher certificate
- Digital Toolkit including start/finish line and mile markers
- Digital Goody Bag
- Virtual playlist
- A Digital Disney Gift Card for select races
For those who would like to register for the 2021 Star Wars Rival Run Weekend virtual event without an existing reservation, availability will open on a limited basis starting December 15th at 10AM ET.
Disney’s statement notes, “While we share our Guests’ disappointment that we will not be taking our final run in the Star Wars Rival Run Weekend together in person, we have based this decision on the unique circumstances of hosting a road race experience on this scale under the current environment…At this time, we have no updates regarding future runDisney events.”
