If you’re a Disney+ subscriber, we have some BIG news.
The ad-free Disney+ plan is set to get a price increase soon as the ad-supported Disney+ plan launches, and we’ve heard about a plan that could make you spend even MORE money while watching Disney+. Now it looks like Disney is starting to put some more things in motion and add a special perk for Disney+ subscribers.
Previously, Disney had indicated that they were working on a system that would link merchandise to the Disney+ streaming service. This system would allow subscribers to buy merchandise themed to Disney+ shows by scanning a code right on the streaming service.
We’ve also shared some details about an Amazon Prime-like service being developed at Disney. That service could provide members with access to exclusive merchandise, events, and discounts, while also linking their in-park experiences with tailored Disney+ recommendations at home.
These systems are still a work in progress, and Disney is still putting “arms and legs” on the Prime-like service, BUT a big step has been taken forward in the general direction of these future services.
Disney is now doing a “limited test experience” that gives Disney+ subscribers EXCLUSIVE early access to certain items on shopDisney that are themed to Disney+ movies or shows.
When one of our team members logged into their Disney+ account, they actually got a pop-up notification about this perk.
Disney notes that you can also visit the “details” pages of certain movies, series, and shorts on Disney+ to scan QR codes that’ll link you to the items. You can also look for a “shop” tab — that’ll only appear on Disney+ primary profiles in the U.S. that are verified as 18+.
Alisa Bowen, the president of Disney+ shared, “Special access to this curated collection of merchandise for the upcoming holiday season is the latest example of the many ways we experiment with how to improve the user experience on Disney+, which includes enhancing the benefits of being a subscriber…We’re excited to collaborate with shopDisney to explore how we can potentially better serve our audiences by expanding the ways they get to interact with the stories and characters they love on Disney+.”
So just what items can you get early access for? Well, there are quite a few! Disney+ subscribers who are Black Panther fans can grab the Wakanda Forever Artist Series Jacket for adults right now (before it goes on sale to the general public).
It is $79.99 and comes in a variety of sizes.
