We just got a MAJOR UPDATE about a NEW perk coming to Disney World hotel rooms!
Disney previously announced that new “Hey, Disney!” Alexa devices would be installed in Disney World and Disneyland hotel rooms in 2022. With the year’s end rapidly approaching, we were beginning to doubt the timeline for this project, but now there’s finally some progress happening. See which hotel will get “Hey Disney!” devices FIRST here.
DFB reader @bradster1325 on Instagram sent us a picture of a notice they received while staying at Disney World’s Polynesian Village Resort. The letter states, “In select Disney Resort hotel rooms, we are testing a new magical interactive smart speaker called ‘Hey, Disney!’. Cast Members may be entering your Guest Room for a short period of time between the hours of 9:00am and 4:00pm to install ‘Hey, Disney!‘.”
It sounds like the “Hey, Disney!” devices are still in the testing stages, but it’s exciting to see some progress on this update at the Disney hotels. If you’re staying at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort soon, you may get a “Hey, Disney!” device in your room. We’ll continue to watch for the devices to appear at other hotels as well.
When the devices are all installed, they will be “custom voice assistants” for guests staying at Disney World and Disneyland hotels. They’ll be able to assist guests with room amenities, guest services, planning tips, weather information, and more.
For example, you’ll be able to ask the device for extra towels, blankets, or pillows, and a Cast Member will bring them to your room. “Hey, Disney!” will also be able to answer questions like “What time does EPCOT open?”
Here are some other things that “Hey, Disney!” can do:
- Tell you when the next bus to a specific park or Disney Springs is scheduled to arrive at your hotel
- Make dining recommendations
- Tell you the day’s weather forecast
- Tell you Disney-themed jokes
- Ask Disney trivia questions
- Create soundscapes that will transport you into the worlds of your favorite characters with ambient sounds and music
Now, Disney has also shared a video on the roll out.
We’ll keep watching for more updates, so stay tuned to DFB for all the latest news.

I hope these can be removed if guests don’t want Disney spying on them in the rooms. I don’t have an Alexa in my home, nor do I want one. I certainly don’t want a device that Disney controls in my hotel room.
Blake Pace says
Alexa devices are the product of Amazon. Amazon recently discontinued the Alexa division entirely, laying off 100% of the division employees.
What, if any, effect will Amazon’s discontinuing of Alexa support have on Disney’s Hey Disney plans?
Bk says
Nope, first thing unplugged when I get to the room. A company obsessed with data now wants to have access to listening device in the room? No.
Melanie Durham says
Sooooo……what about us D23 members that are supposed to receive our free “hey Disney “ device? We’ve been waiting for our email for a year and have received nothing! But the Poly gets this!!!!
Denise says
Stop spending money on items like this that no one wants . . . . . .
Ken says
Amazon discontinued Alexa Internet (alexa.com). It was a totally different business than the Alexa voice assistant. The voice assistant products have not been shut down and are still being sold and supported.
Traci says
To Blake Pace. It’s not the home device being laid off. it’s the web-based industry of Alexa. https://www.theverge.com/2021/12/9/22825744/amazon-retiring-alexa-web-ranking-sevice
Leslie says
I agree with Greg. I hope there will be a choice to have this removed from your hotel room. I do not have one of these devices in my home and would not want one in my hotel room.
Joe B says
When making a reservation at one of the hotels thus equipped, I would specify that this alexa device NOT be present in my room. Otherwise, I will be using off property hotels.
Yvonne says
Why does it need the camera?
