If you’re planning on flying to Disney World in January of 2023 🛑 stop everything. 🛑 We’ve got important budget information for you.
We’ve already taken a look at when Disney World will sell out next year, the best Disney World restaurants for dinner in 2023, and the best dining spots in Disney World for first-timers in 2023. But now we’re taking a look at something that is critical to your vacation planning — flight costs.
Our Method
Every month we calculate the average cost to fly to Disney World. Here’s a quick breakdown of what we do to reach our numbers.
First, we limit our search to flights from select airports within the U.S. to Orlando International Airport (MCO). Not all airports, airlines, or dates are included, so keep that in mind.
When it comes to dates, we typically look at flights that leave on Thursday and arrive on Monday. For January of 2023, we picked a trip that departed on January 26th and returned on January 30th.
These were the starting roundtrip prices for each of the January weekends (for flights from JFK/LGA to MCO — which we just used as our starting point):
- January 5th-9th: from $92
- January 12th-16th: from $116
- January 19th-23rd: from $38
- January 26th-30th: from $75
We picked the 26th-30th because it was neither the cheapest nor the most expensive period — placing us somewhere in the middle.
Here are a few things to note/keep in mind as you book your own trips:
- The flights you book could be much more expensive depending on what dates you pick to travel, what airline you use, and what type of ticket you buy
- We used Google Flights to get our prices (except for Southwest Airlines flights)
- Costs can vary a lot
- To calculate the “low” averages we looked for the least expensive departing and returning flights. For the “high” averages, we looked for the most expensive departing and returning flights.
- The times, layovers, or other things associated with the flights we’ve chosen might not work for you
- We picked “Wanna Get Away” tickets for Southwest Airlines whenever available
- We tried to stick to flights that arrive on the same day as their departure
- Other fees and taxes might be due when booking
- All prices are for 1 person

The Average Cost
When we average the low costs together and the high costs together, it looks like the average cost to fly to Orlando in January 2023 is around $207.22 on the low end and $749.86 on the high end. Averaging those together it’s around $478.54.
So, how has that changed from what we’ve seen in recent months? Well, the lower end cost is nearly $80 CHEAPER than the prices we saw for December 2022. It’s also cheaper than essentially every other month we’ve calculated averages for, except for November of 2021! That marks a pretty significant decrease in airfare prices (at least based on what we’ve seen).
When looking at the higher end, the average cost for January 2023 is just over $100 CHEAPER than what we saw in December 2022. The last time we saw prices cheaper than the January high-end average was February of 2022.
Compared to January of 2022, the flight costs for January of 2023 are expected to be around $100 cheaper. Granted, we looked at different dates in January of 2022 (January 13th-January 17th), so that can significantly change things. Based on the flights we looked at from New York to MCO, January 12th-16th, 2023, was actually the most expensive weekend of the month, so that could be factoring into the cost.
Overall though these numbers seem to point in a good direction for flight costs in early 2023.
