The EPCOT International Festival of the Arts is well underway — and that means it’s time to get creative! Whether you will be in the parks to celebrate Festival of the Arts or at home celebrating in spirit, we’ve got you covered with all things artsy!
One of the best parts of Festival of the Arts (or any EPCOT festival) is the food, of course! If you are unable to try some of the new treats being served in the park, we have a recipe for you to try at home!
You can bake your very own Pop’t Art in the comfort of your own kitchen with all the festive fun you’d feel if you were at EPCOT! This recipe serves six, so grab some cooking pals and let’s get started!
Before you begin cooking, make sure to grab your ingredients.
Ingredients:
Sugar Cookie Dough:
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 cup butter
- 1 egg white
- 2 1/2 cups sifted all-purpose flour
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
Topping:
- 6 tablespoons chocolate-hazelnut spread
Glaze:
- 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
- 3-4 tablespoons milk
- 2 tablespoons vanilla extract
- Food coloring
Now that you’ve gathered each of your ingredients, let’s get to baking!
In order to create your sugar cookie dough, follow these instructions. They’re pretty simple — and perfect if you want to get the littles involved!
Making the Sugar Cookie Dough:
- Cream sugar and butter until fluffy. Add your egg white and beat for another minute. We recommend using an electric mixer to get the job done more quickly!
- Gradually add sifted flour and salt and mix until a soft dough forms. If using an electric mixer, beat at medium speed.
- Cover bowl with plastic wrap or towel and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 300°F.
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat. A silicone baking mat will allow for more evenly cooked cookies and allow easier removal!
- Lightly flour your counter top and roll dough into a 1/4-inch thick rectangle.
- Cut dough into six rectangles, about 3×5 inches each.
- Place cookies onto baking sheet and bake until golden brown, about 15 minutes.
- Let cool for 30 minutes.
Making the Topping:
- Spread about a tablespoon of chocolate-hazelnut spread on each cookie, leaving about a 1/8 inch border around the edges.
- Set aside for later!
Making the Glaze:
- Whisk powdered sugar, 3 tablespoons of milk, and vanilla extract in a pie plate until smooth and mixed evenly. If the glaze is too thick, add extra milk. If too runny, add extra powdered sugar.
- Set aside 2 tablespoons of glaze in a small bowl to use later.
- Grab your cookies and dip each of them in the glaze, chocolate-hazelnut side down. You want the glaze to cover the chocolate.
- Set aside on a wire rack to dry.
- Mix the remaining 2 tablespoons of glaze from earlier with your choice of food coloring! Have as much fun as you want with this one! Use a fork to drizzle the glaze over the top of the cookies.
Your masterpiece is now complete and there is only one step left. Eat! We absolutely love this idea and cannot wait to try to create our own Pop’t Arts at home!
