2024 is going to be a big year in Disney World.
We’re getting a new ride in Magic Kingdom, the Disney Dining Plan is returning, and Park Pass Reservations are going away for most guests. If, like us, you’re excited to finally hit the parks without having to worry about snagging a reservation — we have some news for you about how Virtual Queues will work in the new year!
Starting on January 9th, Park Pass Reservations are going away for those with date-based tickets. On the same date, visitors who no longer need a park pass reservation will be able to book one attraction Virtual Queue at any theme park where they have valid admission. Visitors will only be able to hold one Virtual Queue at a time, however, so they won’t be able to book both TRON Lightcyle / Run and Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind at once.
Previously, guests would need to have a Park Pass Reservation to get a Virtual Queue at 7AM and would have to be in the park at 1PM if they wanted to get a Virtual Queue for a ride in that specific park at that time. Those hoping to get a Virtual Queue at 1PM will still need to be in the park to get one.
Disney stated that select admission types may still need a reservation to book a Virtual Queue at 7AM, so Annual Passholders might still need to grab those reservations to book one.

I can see why Disney may be failing. When my children were younger, I’d bring them once or twice a year until their twenties. We are big Disney fans.. it was easy. Just pack up and go. We always stayed on property and enjoyed the added perks. I even bought into the the DVC ((I sold it). Disney started to change and now I’m glad I did. It’s just to confusing. The buckle and dime you everywhere. You need to make reservations just to ride a ride. It’s getting ridiculous. You can’t relax and enjoy yourself. You always have to be on you phone and checking something out. This used to be a vacation.

Not understanding why a passholder wouldn’t be able to make a virtual queue at any park considering they can go into any park after scanning in at the park they have a reservation for. The just jop over to the other park.
Mary says
As an annual pass holder I will still need to make a park reservation; Correct?
Dave says
So Disney once again treats annual pass holders as second class citizens. The requirement for a Park Reservation makes zero sense, especially if I can Park Hop immediately.
erjen says
Ah yes, the AP “perk” of still having to make a park reservation most days.
A says
This should be for a passholders.
Ronjon says
The hype is over, they need to get rid of Virtual Que’s for Tron and Guardians. They also need to get rid of all reservations and let it first come, first serve like before. One more thing, bring back any time Park Hopping.
Tim says
This whole virtual lines for rides and dinning have sucked the joy out of visiting. Now everything needs to be scheduled. We visited Disney World not that long ago for tge first time and the whole experience really tainted us into wanting to go back. Far better experience at Universal I dare say…

I agree with Patrick!
As a family we want to see and experience the parks without being glued to our phones,
It’s called a vacation for a reason!
Bring back the good ole days of roaming the parks.
Technology isn’t always the answer!
Lorna says
How bizarre that so many people would like to return to the “good old days” without any reservations, first come, first served. I remember those days…you only got to do about half of what you wanted to do (if that) because you were waiting in line all day. Oh yeah, and you had no way of knowing how long a line was until you showed up at the attraction and looked at the sign. There’s nothing to stop you from just roaming the parks. Knock yourself out. Aside from the very few attractions that require virtual queues, you can still do anything you want. And there are plenty of first come, first served opportunities—if there weren’t, crowds wouldn’t be present at rope drop.
Fast Passes, reservations for dining, and technology-enabled features are what keep us going back every other year. We spend our time in entertaining activities, not standing in endless lines. Now we don’t even have to waste time standing in quick service food lines; order on-line for a given timeframe, then go get it. Easy Peasy.
