There are certain Disney trends that Gen Z takes part in that Gen X does not see as life hacks.
As a GenZ member of the team, I polled the Gen X members of our team to see what Disney Gen Z trends they think are the WORST. Here is the list of four trends that GenZ does at Disney that GenX thinks are a little weird.
Each generation has its own trends that not every generation understands. So let’s take a look at some of those things our Gen X team members say they just don’t get about Gen Z!
Flying on Cheaper Airlines
Starting off with traveling to Disney World, it can be tough to find a flight that is budget-friendly for a younger generation. A lot of Gen Z tends to gravitate towards airlines like Spirit or Allegiant to help save money while traveling.
On budget airlines, there are often hidden fees that are not included in the base price of the ticket. These fees can include carry-on bag and seat fees.
It is possible that if you’re choosing to pay for your seat and/or bags, the price can rack up quickly outside of just the price for the ticket. It can make your flight on a no-frills airline the same price as a flight that may have included carry-ons and a seat assignment in the original fare. But this can all depend on how light you travel, and if you prefer to pick your seat or not. This decision ultimately comes down to the person, but Gen X does have a good point.
Wearing Bodysuits to the Parks
Park fashion for Gen Z includes new popular trends like tennis skirts and bodysuits, think athleisure. These are comfortable and often sweat-wicking, but our Gen X team members mentioned an uncomfortable truth about wearing bodysuits in the parks.
For those who like to wear bodysuits to the parks, what do you do when you have to go to the bathroom? Having to take off a whole outfit in a Disney World restroom seems like a nightmare on a hot and crowded day.
While they look cute on, this trend can make your day at Disney World a pain.
Fanny Packs
Can carrying a fanny pack at Disney World really be considered a Gen Z hack, if Gen X are the ones who made them trendy in the first place?
It can, since the bags — sometimes referred to as “belt bags” now — are often worn diagonally across the chest now rather than around the waist. Disney has noticed this trend, and they have started to offer more fanny pack options in the parks.
Trends always come and go, and fanny packs are back! These bags can be perfect for carrying all your park day essentials. We are happy that they are back in style, but we have to give credit where credit is due, this was a Gen X trend before it was a Gen Z one.
Taking .5 Selfies
.5 selfies are super popular with Gen Z right now, especially at Disney World. For those who do not know, a .5 selfie is when you put your phone in .5 and turn it around to take a selfie with the camera on the back of your phone.
These photos can turn out super cute if you take them the right way. It is a great way to get everyone in the photo, or more of your outfit, or more of what is behind you.
This trend may not be understood by other generations as it seems to just make more sense to take a selfie using the front facing camera. But they can work really well in instances where you want to get a larger background in your photo!
While trends come and go, it’s a time-honored tradition for older generations to find things that younger people are doing that they just don’t understand. And really, that works both ways. Fanny packs? I thought us Baby Boomers wore them first and we were made fun of! My daughter makes fun of me for tying my sweater/sweat shirt around my waste. What is wrong with that? I see young and old do it. Everything that was old is NEW.

My husband & I are Gen X, we always go for the cheaper flights. At our local airport (GRR) Alleigant is usually the only airline that flies nonstop to Florida. Oh, and my fanny pack was a black with neon pink accents Victoria Vanderbilt.
