Disney is taking the near unprecedented step of COMPLETELY RENAMING one of their theme parks.
It’s no secret to anyone who has followed history of Disneyland Paris that the resort has had more than its fair share troubles since the complex first opened in 1992. Over the years there have been financial ups and downs, critical appraisals from inside and outside the theme park community, and a second gate theme park that was almost universally acknowledged – even by Disney itself – as their worst park! Now, that park is getting a name change.
When Walt Disney Studios Park opened in 2002, it met with a massive negative reaction from fans and critics alike. In fact, the park’s reputation was so bad that Disney themselves buried it on their Imagineering Story documentary, with Chief Creative Executive Bruce Vaughn saying in part, “It’s a bunch of gray warehouses. He goes ‘Yeah. It’s supposed to be like a studio.’ But again, it was this notion of, ‘Ah, the people… the guests will buy it. This is what a studio really looks like. The guests, they just want, you know,’ and it’s like talking yourself in at the highest levels of, the guests… the guests would just buy this stuff.”
In 2024, as part of a MASSIVE overhaul of the park – akin to the complete reinvention of California Adventure nearly two decades ago – it was officially announced that the park’s name would be changing to Disney Adventure World in conjunction with the opening of a World of Frozen land.
Tom Fitzgerald, Walt Disney Imagineering Chief Storytelling Executive and Senior Creative Executive for Disneyland Paris., said that the name change was part of Disney “changing the story of Walt Disney Studios Park, evolving from “how it’s done” soundstages to celebratory theaters and adventures that come to life in immersive worlds. These fully realized adventure worlds will become the focus of the park’s new identity and appear as realms that guests discover as they navigate deeper within the park and are invited to participate in adventures inspired by our most beloved stories.”
Disneyland Paris president Natacha Rafalski added, “This significant evolution inspired us to rename the Park, heralding a vibrant new chapter for Disneyland Paris.”
In addition to the name change, the park will gain a new entrance based on a “vibrant, contemporary open-air movie studio, World Premiere” that will see visitors “welcomed to a glamorous movie premiere in the heart of Hollywood”, and a new “Art Déco-inspired theater district, currently celebrating Walt Disney Animation Studios and Pixar Animation Studios” named Word Premiere Place.
These new additions will join the previously announced World of Frozen land which, along with Avengers Campus and Worlds of Pixar, will surround the massive newly constructed Adventure Bay, that will feature “with fountains, music, lights and special effects, it will be fitted with the latest technologies for water-based entertainment.”
In addition to all of this, the newly renamed park will also be receiving a new Tangled ride named Raiponce Tangled Spin, which will allow guests to “take spin through the iconic floating lanterns scene, a new table-service restaurant called the The Regal View Restaurant and Lounge, which will offer Disney Princess character meal. There will be new exclusive nighttime “activation” experiences at Avengers Campus featuring special effects and projections, as well as a new Alice in Wonderland show built around, “high-flying acrobats pushing their limits in a supercharged pop and rock showdown with two possible endings decided by the audience.”
A massive new era is dawning at Disneyland Paris, and with that new era comes the new second gate game Disney Adventure World. Stay tuned to DFB for more new updates on the park’s transformation.
