Rope dropping the Disney World parks is a fine art.
It takes precision, planning, and cunning to make the most of the first few hours of the day in Disney World. You need to know exactly where you want to go before you even hit the ground, lest you waste any of that valuable pre-crowd time. And we’re here to WARN you about a common mistake when rope dropping EPCOT!
If you’re planning to arrive in EPCOT before it opens, then you’re a dedicated bunch! The park has fewer rides than Hollywood Studios or Magic Kingdom, but there are still some heavy hitters with good rope drop potential. However, there’s one ride you need to AVOID in the morning.
One mistake we see probably hundreds of people make every day in EPCOT is rope dropping Spaceship Earth. You know, the giant geodesic sphere at the front of the park with a ride inside? Yeah, that one.
Why shouldn’t you do this? Because Spaceship Earth is a relatively chill ride, and that means that it doesn’t usually have a high wait time. However, its wait is typically the longest first thing in the morning because it’s right there at the front of the park. People see the first ride in their walking path and just get in line.
Instead of wasting 30 minutes waiting for Spaceship Earth when the park opens, we encourage you to head further back. A good use of rope drop time would be riding something like Soarin’ Around the World, Test Track, or Frozen Ever After.
You may notice that we left Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure off of that list. While the ride is new and popular, it also hits a peak first thing in the morning because it’s the closest attraction to the International Gateway entrance of EPCOT (the back entrance located between France and the UK in World Showcase). You’d be better off doing that one a little later in the morning or last thing at night.
So there you go — advice for how to successfully rope drop from people who visit Disney World every single day. We won’t steer you wrong!

Debbie and John Oswald says
Last week, I made the mistake. I’ll never make again, of rope dropping Frozen. We came in from the World Showcase and walked, with no traffic, to Frozen. Got right on, no problem. They even seated us in the front. Our first time ever in the front, and the last! It was around 58 degrees that morning. Being in the front, I got thoroughly soaked by a massive wall of water when we splashed down. It was extremely unpleasant to be that wet, that early, on a cold morning.
