Originally envisioned by Walt Disney himself as the “Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow,” EPCOT first welcomed guests on October 1, 1982. And from September 22 – December 31, 2023, EPCOT is serving as host to The Walt Disney Company 100th Anniversary celebration in Disney World!

EPCOT is currently in the midst of a historic multi-year transformation! The park — previously comprised of World Showcase and Future World — now houses four distinct “neighborhoods”: World Celebration, World Nature, World Discovery, and World Showcase.

World Showcase hosts pavilions highlighting the cultures and cuisine of 11 different countries, winding around World Showcase Lagoon.

World Celebration

World Celebration is the first neighborhood guests encounter when entering the park, with Spaceship Earth setting the iconic scene. Not only does Spaceship Earth serve as the park’s signature icon, it also houses a classic Disney attraction, to boot.

While you can enjoy the offerings below in World Celebration right now, it’s good to know that in December 2023, this new EPCOT neighborhood will reach completion bringing along a NEW Festival Area, a new Character Meet-and-Greet spot, and a new tribute to Walt Disney at Dreamer’s Point. It’s all part of the multi-year transformation of EPCOT!

• Points of Light at Spaceship Earth — Each evening, Spaceship Earth is transformed with beautiful lighting effects set to music. While guests can enjoy this display after the sun goes down every night, you’ll likely catch an extra-special display themed to the park’s current seasonal Festival!

World Discovery

World Discovery transports guests to the Final Frontier: SPACE!

In fact, this neighborhood is home to the very first intergalactic world pavilion: the Wonders of Xandar pavilion housing EPCOT’s first roller coaster: Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind!

Disney DuckTales World Showcase Adventure

Sing it with me, you know you want to… “DuckTales… WOO-oo!!” The Disney DuckTales World Showcase Adventure is a free Scavenger Hunt available for guests to participate in through the Play Disney Parks app.

Guests “Join Scrooge McDuck, his nephews & friends as they travel around World Showcase on a quacky quest to find the 7 Plunders of the World – and return them to their rightful owners.”

The treasures are hidden in World Showcase country pavilions, and each country has “three assignments and one finale.”

The country pavilions with hidden treasures are Mexico, Norway, China, Germany, Japan, France, and the United Kingdom.

Every mission “takes approximately 25-30 minutes to complete.”

Kidcot Fun Stops

How oh HOW are you going to keep your kiddos endlessly entertained as you explore ALL of the countries around the World Showcase?

It’s Kidcot to the rescue!

Each country pavilion has a Kidcot Fun Stop where kiddos can collect activity cards — specific to each pavilion’s country — that feature stickers, mini-activities, and fun facts.

EPCOT Forever — EPCOT’s Nighttime Spectacular

EPCOT Forever returned to the park on April 3, 2023 for a temporary run as the park’s nighttime spectacular.

Disney brought back this classic show as a placeholder while the Entertainment team “preps the Lagoon” for an entirely new production in honor of Disney 100 Years of Wonder: Luminous The Symphony Of Us!

This new production will make its debut on December 5th, 2023. 

Typically, EPCOT Forever can be seen nightly at 9PM, but be sure to check the My Disney Experience app or posted schedule boards in the park to confirm the showtime during your visit.

Disney100 Celebration at EPCOT

EPCOT will serve as the HOST of the 100th Anniversary celebration in Walt Disney World! The festivities officially kicked off on September 22, 2023 and will last through December 31, 2023. 

LOTS of new additions have joined the park for the occasion, including a new, platinum Mickey Mouse statue, a character-filled mural, and more platinum decorations in World Celebration. And of course, Mickey and Minnie are decked out in their best for a new meet and greet in the Imagination! pavilion.

Disney has shared that Spaceship Earth will “light up each night with special colors and lights accompanied by the Disney100 anthem, a unique rendition of ‘When You Wish Upon a Star.’”

Jason Read, show lighting designer principal for Walt Disney Imagineering said, “We’re… inspired by many things from the history of the company, its characters, theme parks and shows – even the Disney100 opening logo that plays before our feature films during this anniversary. You may see homages to everything from the Wonderful World of Disney television show opening to Mickey balloons that we sell on Main Street, U.S.A.”

Seasonal Festivals at EPCOT

EPCOT hosts four Festivals during the calendar year: the EPCOT Festival of the Arts, the EPCOT Flower and Garden Festival, the EPCOT Food and Wine Festival, and the EPCOT Festival of the Holidays.

EPCOT Festival of the Arts

The EPCOT International Festival of the Arts made its debut in 2017, and celebrates three artistic disciplines: Culinary, Visual, and Performing Arts.

The 2023 dates were January 13th through February 20th, 2023, and we will keep you posted on the dates for 2024 when they are announced!

EPCOT Flower & Garden Festival

The EPCOT International Flower and Garden Festival typically runs from early March through early July. This event is an absolute highlight of Spring in Walt Disney World, and has been since it began in 1994!

The 2023 dates were March 1st through July 5th, 2023, and we will keep you posted on the dates for 2024 when they are announced!

EPCOT Food & Wine Festival

The EPCOT Food and Wine Festival is our FAVORITE event of the year here at the DFB, and is it NOW RUNNING for 2023! The dates for this year’s EPCOT Food and Wine Festival are July 27th – November 18th, 2023. 

The Festival features over 25 Marketplace Food Booths, Special Events, live entertainment, family activities, and MUCH more. And you can find ALL the info you need here for this year’s event!

EPCOT International Festival of the Holidays

EPCOT’s International Festival of the Holidays is a global celebration of the Season! The 2023 Festival of the Holidays will begin on November 24th and will run through December 30th.

During the Festival, guests can experience holiday traditions from various cultures as expressed through decorations, stories, music, cuisine, and additional special events.

OPENING IN LATE 2023: A dedicated Festival area is coming to EPCOT to serve as the new “home base” for EPCOT’s seasonal Festivals and live events! CommuniCore Hall and CommuniCore Plaza will be housed in EPCOT’s World Celebration, bringing EPCOT International Festivals “to the center of Walt Disney World,” according to Disney.

CommuniCore Plaza will provide an outdoor space where guests can come to relax and experience all that the Festivals have to offer.

CommuniCore Hall will be housed within the plaza, and will be the first fully-purpose built structure in Festival programing! Designed with flexibility in mind, this hall will be able to host a wide variety of experiences with food, art, live music, and more.

Disney Genie

A NEW service made its debut within the My Disney Experience app for Disney World on October 19, 2021. Disney Genie provides on-the-go planning tools and customized itineraries to help guests maximize their park time in the parks!

The standard Disney Genie — which includes features like dining tips, recommendations for when to head to your next attractions, and enhancements to the Disability Access Service — is a complimentary service.

There are also optional add-ons available for a fee. TWO different options are available, and they allow guests to bypass the standby lines for attractions and instead enter the Lightning Lane. The Disney Genie+ base-price option — starting at $15* per person, per day — allows guests to select the next available time to arrive at an attraction and enter that attraction’s Lightning Lane at over 50 attractions across the four Disney World theme parks. (*Prices vary by date and by park, and Lightning Lane access is subject to availability.)

And another paid option is available for DIFFERENT — and more in-demand — attractions. Disney’s Individual Lightning Lane Attraction Selection service (pay-per-ride) is how guests pay a fee to utilize the Lightning Lane for an individual attraction.
