Sometimes, things don’t always go as planned in Disney World.
For example, sometimes your favorite ride might be closed, either for refurbishment or a temporary closure due to a technical issue. Sometimes the unpredictable Florida weather can mean rain that comes out of nowhere and closes down all the outdoor rides. Sometimes it’s so hot that your ice cream melts before you can eat it. Well, sometimes the problem is with Disney World’s transportation system, including the Monorail. We’re going to tell you how to keep a Monorail closure from derailing your day.
So, let’s just say you get to the Transportation and Ticket Center, you’ve parked your car, and you’re ready to take the Monorail to Magic Kingdom (because, as you may or may not know, you can’t drive DIRECTLY to Magic Kingdom — it’s just a THING). BUT the Express Monorail to Magic Kingdom isn’t open — maybe it’s closed due to a technical issue. Okay, so this just happened to us recently.
At the time, a Cast Member told us that Disney was just doing some maintenance on the Monorail. We also learned that the Resort and EPCOT Monorail lines were still running. But we still needed to get to Magic Kingdom. So how do you get to Magic Kingdom without the Monorail? Well, you get to take the scenic route and take a ferry boat (honestly, we kinda’ prefer this method of transportation sometimes).
We did wait around to see what would happen and noticed Cast Members taking down the stanchions. We also noticed the Gold Monorail pulling into the Express gate. We were then told that the Monorail was going through some testing because some of the gates at the stations weren’t functioning properly.
But, yes, if this happens to you, don’t worry. You can still get to Magic Kingdom via the Ferryboat. However, this does mean that the Ferryboat will probably be more crowded than normal.
