If you’ve been wanting to ride every ride on Disney property as many times as you’d like, the day has finally come.
This controversial Disney system is leaving Magic Kingdom and EPCOT tomorrow!
Virtual Queues for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure and Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind will end on February 24th. Guests will now be able to hop in stand-by queues from February 25th onward!
Virtual Queues are a system Disney Parks uses for new attractions to control guest flow. Previously, you would have to wake up at 7 AM or be in the parks at 1 PM to hopefully log into the MyDisneyExperience at the right time to snag a chance to hop on the ride. Now that this system won’t be in place for Tiana’s or Cosmic Rewind, guests can enter the queue at any time!
The Virtual Queue system did not replace waiting in a line; instead, it told guests when they were able to return to the standby queue. Your wait could still be two hours long, and that was after waiting a few hours to be called back to the attraction. Virtual queues were also limited, meaning they could fill up before you snagged a return time. Your only way to ride the attraction could be to purchase an Individual Lightning Lane, but that’s only if those were available, too!
If you’re reading all of that and thinking, “Wow, that’s pretty complicated,” it was!
Standby times will now be listed, so if you want to enter the line at a 260-minute wait, you can! If you want to park hop in the evening and decide last minute that you need to see these new attractions, you can! Want to ride Cosmic Rewind 10 times in a row to try to get all of the songs? You can!
We expect wait times for these attractions to be busier than usual as guests get the thrill of riding Tiana’s and Cosmic Rewind as many times as they want, but like we’ve seen for TRON Lightcycle / Run, Disney World’s most recent attraction to stop using the virtual queue, the wait times may balance out over time.
Tiana’s Bayou Adventure and Cosmic Rewind are now great rides to choose at rope drop or during early entry if you want to limit your wait. Not having a virtual queue allows for more flexibility when planning your day, too! But if you want to guarantee a ride without as long a wait, you can still use Lightning Lanes at both attractions At Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, you can buy the Lightning Lane Multi Pass for that day and make a reservation to ride. For Guardians of the Galaxy, you will need to buy a Lightning Lane Single Pass to skip the standby line. (We’ve got lots more info about Lightning Lanes for you here!)
There aren’t any current attractions that utilize the Virtual Queue system, but Disney generally likes to use it for new attractions and for merchandise for special events, so we aren’t sure if it’s going away entirely.
