It’s about to get much easier to travel between Orlando International Airport and one of Europe’s most popular tourist destinations.
This fall, Iberia, the official flag carrier airline of Spain, will begin offering seasonal service between Orlando Airport and Madrid. The service is scheduled to begin on October 26th, pending government approval.
The new flights will be Iberia’s first out of Orlando International Airport. The airline currently services more than 140 cities in Europe, the Americas, Africa, the Middle East, and Asia, including other newly added flights to Fortaleza and Recife, in Brazil, per the Orlando Business Journal.
According to Tim Giuliani, president and CEO of the Orlando Economic Partnership, new international flights open up business opportunities. He explained to the Orlando Business Journal, “This enhanced connectivity will not only attract more international visitors but also strengthen Orlando’s position as a global hub for trade, innovation and investment. The expanded air service improves connectivity to Orlando, making it more accessible for business leaders, entrepreneurs and industries looking to tap into key European markets.”
The new international flights, as well as the opening of Universal’s Epic Universe, should help Orlando rebound from a slower February and March. After all, Easter falls relatively late on the calendar this year, so many spring break visitors are waiting until April for their Orlando vacation.
