Disney World’s upcoming hotel addition might change many guests’ Monorail Crawl!
The Walt Disney World Monorail has been a key part of the “Most Magical Place on Earth” since day one, when it opened as the resort’s initial main transportation apparatus. The Monorail initially connected the Magic Kingdom with the Transportation and Ticket Center (TTC), the Polynesian Village Resort, and the Contemporary Resort. Stops were added to EPCOT and the Grand Floridian Resort & Spa when they opened in 1982 and 1988 respectively.
In addition to providing transportation for guests staying at the Contemporary, Polynesian, and Grand Floridian traveling to and from the Magic Kingdom, the Resort Monorail Line also provides those guests — and even those not staying at the aforementioned hotels — the ability to jump back and forth between the hotels to visit their various eating establishments.
Currently, those looking for a drink on the Resort Line would likely drop by the Polynesian’s Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto or Tambu Lounge for a refreshing tropical beverage. They could also head to the Contemporary to visit Outer Rim, or for a slightly more upscale drink at the lounges attached to Steakhouse 71 or the California Grill. At the Grand Floridian, the choices have been slightly more limited — there is the Beauty and the Beast-themed Enchanted Rose. But beyond that, there are a few bar stools at Citricos or Narccoossee’s, and they can be quite hard to get!
However, a new bar is about to enter the fray! As part of an overall refurbishment of the Grand Floridian’s lobby, a brand-new bar is being added.
Based on the birdcage that had long been part of the hotel’s ambiance, Disney says that this new bar will “pay tribute to the resort’s Victorian roots with intricate woodwork, stained glass, and brass accents.” While details – including the menu – of this upcoming bar have been kept under wraps for now, Disney’s recent history tells us it will likely be stocked with thematically appropriate drinks.
The new “Birdcage Bar” coming to the Grand Floridian’s lobby will likely make the hotel a must-stop on any Disney Adult’s Monorail Crawl when it opens! Stay tuned to DFB for more on Disney’s upcoming additions.
